Bob Chilcott secular

Bob Chilcott secular repertoire All for Love of One This is a beautiful setting of an anonymous medieval text that follows a broken-hearted lover into the woods. Fluctuating between major and minor keys, Chilcott’s melody is full of nostalgia and grows intensely towards the middle of the piece. The parts are supported by a warm and flowing piano accompaniment. Originally published in Five Songs for Upper Voices. SA and piano 3 mins, Very Easy–Easy 978-0-19-336766-1 | Published November 2019 Make us a channel of your peace In this expressive setting, Chilcott adapts the Prayer of Saint Francis, with its focus on peace and unity. A semi-chorus, which may be taken from within the choir or by an upper-voice or children’s choir, weaves Beethoven’s ‘Ode to Joy’ melody into the texture to create a powerful presentation of the unifying power of song. SATB and piano 4 mins, Easy 978-0-19-353208-3 | Published May 2020 Red Boots On Red Boots On is a funky setting of a poem by Kit Wright, brought to life by Chilcott’s jazzy chords and groovy syncopated rhythms. The melody begins in unison and grows in texture throughout the piece, and is accompanied by a characterful piano part. Originally published in Five Songs for Upper Voices. Walking the Red Road This expressive piece is based on The Seven Sacred Virtues of the Lakota; the title describes a commitment to purposefully live by these values, the metaphorical ‘red road’, being a spiritual way of life. The unhurried tempo gives space for the listener to reflect on the text, while sumptuous harmonies create a rich cushion of sound. SATB (with divisions) unaccompanied 3 mins, Easy 978-0-19-354017-0 | Publishing June 2020 Sergei Rachmaninoff Arranged by Bob Chilcott Adagio sostenuto from Piano Concerto No. 2 This lavish arrangement of the second movement of Rachmaninoff’s Second Piano Concerto for wordless a cappella voices was written for Harry Christophers and The Sixteen. Chilcott artfully reimagines a pianistic texture for choir, making full use of the potential of the human voice. Bob Chilcott sacred repertoire Angel voices ever singing Written for the charity Help Musicians, this anthem presents an imaginative setting of Francis Pott’s well-known hymn in triple metre. Characterful and contrasting organ writing underpins the melodically and rhythmically interesting vocal lines, and an alto solo in verse four provides textural contrast. Now the green blade riseth This Easter anthem sets an evocative text by J. M. C. Crum. Stately, expressive vocal lines are underpinned by a lively organ part, with crisp staccato melismas that pop out of the texture.
