Route 7 MITTELKÄRNTEN UND GURKTALER ALPEN CENTRAL CARINTHIA AND GURKTAL ALPS Dom zu Gurk Gurk Cathedral Burg Hochosterwitz Hochosterwitz Castle Marterle bei Masternitzen Wayside shrine near Masternitzen Der Sonne entgegen Von Villach aus geht es durch das Gegendtal nach Arriach, dem geografischen Mittelpunkt Kärntens. In Feldkirchen biegt man Richtung Gurktal ab, um über Zammelsberg und Weitensfeld nach Gurk zu gelangen. Der Gurker Dom stellt eine der wichtigsten Wallfahrtsstätten Kärntens dar. Weiter führt die Route nach St. Veit. Bei Launsdorf fährt man an der imposanten Burg Hochosterwitz vorbei. Via Brückl und Mittertrixen geht es nach Haimburg und von dort hinauf nach Diex (1.159 m), dem angeblich sonnenreichsten Ort Österreichs. Nach der Abfahrt erreicht man wieder Brückl, biegt nach Norden in das Görtschitztal ein und bei Mösel links ab Richtung Althofen. Beim Schloss Böckstein zweigt man in das Gurktal ab. In Straßburg geht es dann rechts weg ins Metnitztal, ehe man die Flattnitz auf 1.400 m Höhe erreicht. Weiter geht es hinunter ins Steirische Murtal. Bei Stadl/Mur fährt man 6 km flussaufwärts bis Predlitz und gelangt von dort über die teilweise sehr steile Auffahrt zur Turracher Höhe (1.783 m) wieder nach Kärnten zurück. Über Bad Kleinkirchheim (mit den Thermen St. Kathrein und Römerbad) und Radenthein geht es durchs Gegendtal zurück zum Ausgangspunkt. Towards the sun From Villach, the route heads through the Gegend Valley to Arriach, the geographical centre of Carinthia. In Feldkirchen, you turn towards the Gurk Valley, reaching Gurk via Zammelsberg and Weitensfeld. Gurk Cathedral is one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Carinthia. The route continues to St. Veit. At Launsdorf you go past the impressive Hochosterwitz Castle. Via Brückl and Mittertrixen, the route continues to Haimburg and from there up to Diex (1,159 m), said to be the sunniest place in Austria. After the descent, you get back to Brückl, turn north into the Görtschitz Valley and left towards Althofen at Mösel. At Böckstein Castle, you turn into the Gurk Valley. In Straßburg, the route veers right into the Metnitz Valley, before reaching Flattnitz at 1,400 metres. It continues further down into the Styrian Mur Valley. At Stadl an der Mur, you go 6 km upstream to Predlitz and from there you reach Turracher Höhe (1,783 m) up a sometimes very steep ascent, back to Carinthia. Then you continue through Bad Kleinkirchheim (with the St. Kathrein and Römerbad thermal spas) and Radenthein through the Gegend Valley back to the starting point. Route 8 SLOWENIEN UND SÜDKÄRNTEN SLOVENIA AND SOUTHERN CARINTHIA Seebergsattel Seeberg Sattel Wocheiner See Lake Wocheiner See Bunkermuseum Wurzenpass Wurzen Pass Bunker Museum Auf den Spuren alter Motorräder Von Villach Richtung Süden geht es nach Fürnitz und dort über den Wurzenpass (1.073 m) nach Slowenien. Via Kranjska Gora und Jesenice gelangt man in den kleinen Ort Lipce, dort Richtung Pokljuka abbiegen. Von dem auf einer Hochebene gelegenen Biathlon-WM-Ort Pokljuka geht es weiter nach Bohinjska Bistrica und von da aus über den Bohinjsko sedlo nach Železniki. Jetzt können sich die Motorradfahrer auf einen sehr schönen Abschnitt über Kropa nach Kranj freuen. Mit dem Seebergsattel (1.218 m) in den Karawanken ist die Grenze zu Kärnten wieder erreicht. Die Passstraße selbst ist bestens ausgebaut und gut asphaltiert. In Bad Eisenkappel geht es Richtung Westen und vor der Auffahrt zum Schaidasattel lohnt ein Abstecher in die Trögener Klamm. Die Fahrt durch die wildromantische Schlucht ist ein Erlebnis für sich. Die Klamm retour geht es über Zell-Pfarre nach Ferlach ins Rosental. Immer weiter entlang des Rosentals, vorbei am Ferlacher und Feistritzer Stausee, geht es Richtung Westen bis nach Rosegg. Hier lohnt ein weiterer Abstecher zum bekannten Sommer-Top-Spot Velden am Wörthersee, danach cruist man gemütlich zurück zum Ausgangspunkt Villach. On the trail of old motorcycles Going south from Villach, the route heads to Fürnitz and over the Wurzen Pass (1,073 m) to Slovenia. Via Kranjska Gora and Jesenice, you get to the little village Lipce, from there turn towards Pokljuka. From the World Biathlon Championship resort of Pokljuka on a high plateau, you continue to Bohinjska Bistrica and from there across the Bohinjsko sedlo to Železniki. Here, motorcyclists can look forward to a beautiful section via Kropa to Kranj. With the Seeberg Sattel (1,218 m) in the Karawanken, you have once again reached the Carinthian border. The pass road itself is well developed and well asphalted. In Bad Eisenkappel, the route heads west and before the ascent to Schaida Sattel, it is worth a detour to the Trögener Klamm gorge. The ride through the wildly romantic gorge is an experience in itself. The return from the gorge goes through Zell-Pfarre to Ferlach into the Rosental Valley. It continues further along the Rosental, past the Ferlach and Feistritz reservoir lakes to the west as far as Rosegg. Here it is worth another detour to the well-known top summer resort of Velden am Wörthersee, then it is a leisurely cruise back to the starting point Villach.
