momentum is neither

momentum is neither created nor destroyed, but only changed through the action of forces

Dear Friends: In today’s world, you may wonder about the momentum for women. Are all the velocity vectors more or less pointing in the same direction? What I know is that you must stand up to move forward, and at Texas Woman’s, we are not sitting still. Through this past year of the pandemic, the university has emerged as a mightier version of its former self. In 2021, lawmakers established the Texas Woman’s University System, the only university system in the nation with a woman-focused mission. They also authorized 0 million to build a new health sciences center on our Denton campus, which will expand programming in high-demand fields such as nursing, physical therapy and occupational therapy—all with an emphasis on rural health. We opened a state-of-the-art building where a new biotechnology program is preparing graduates for careers in a growing, high-paying STEM field. And we officially opened the Jane Nelson Institute for Women’s Leadership, which is creating more opportunities for women entrepreneurs and women in public service. Our student teams won a NASA-sponsored competition – not once but twice this year – demonstrating scrappy determination in out-designing a field of competitors with strong engineering backgrounds. We also launched new athletics programs in artistic swimming, women’s wrestling and STUNT, while our NCAA gymnastics team won the USAG championship, the program’s 12th national title since 1993. These are some of the ways you will see in the following pages that Texas Woman’s educates a woman to empower the world. Carine M. Feyten, PhD Chancellor and President 1
