Making Our Move The Flywheel Effect Building our momentum If you have ever pushed a merry-go-round on a playground, you know the first push from a dead stop is the hardest. Often, you will see children pushing with their whole bodies, running a lap or two around the circumference. But then, once it gets going, they will stand in place and just give little pushes to keep the wheel spinning. This is the flywheel effect. This is the perfect metaphor for what Texas Woman’s has been experiencing these past five-plus years. We’ve attained a lot of momentum by running the circumference of that metaphorical merry-go-round with a focus on our infrastructure, our research, our brand positioning, our collaborations and our institutional pride. The momentum of greatness is building for our institution and our students, and it will continue to do so as we define what it means to be the Texas Woman’s University System. Just as the flywheel has taken so many years of effort to get it spinning, we must keep pushing, little by little, to keep up the momentum.
