The World Keeps Spinning Returning to the New Normal Commencement’s in-person, jubilant return Roughly 1,650 graduates participated in graduation ceremonies in fall 2021, the first in-person commencement events since December 2019. We had 2,100 more graduates in spring 2022. It was gratifying to see so many jubilant graduates, who demonstrated exceptional perseverance throughout the pandemic, pivoting from one learning platform to another. Travel abroad With travel restrictions lifted, PIONERAS program undergraduates — seeking careers as bilingual teachers — traveled in 2021 to Costa Rica for an intensive language and cultural experience no textbook could match.
Boo at the U resumes After being sidelined by the pandemic, this family-friendly, 20-year Halloween tradition resumed in 2021, delighting Denton children and raising a heap of items for the TWU Food Pantry. Tammie Jo Shults The Paup Lecture Series featured airline pilot Tammie Jo Shults, who in 2018 heroically completed an emergency landing in Philadelphia, saving the lives of 148 passengers and crew.
