Callicostella (C.Müll.) Mitt. Menzel (1750) summa-
rises the position over the use of this name.
Crosby pointed out the priority of Schizomitrium
Schimp. over Callicostella, but Koponen and
Isoviita proposed the conservation of Callicostella,
to avoid the nomenclatural changes. This
proposal was accepted by the Committee for
Bryophyta of IAPT, for submission to the 1993
Tokyo Congress, and confimed there.
Nevertheless, in the interim, a large number of
nomenclatural changes were made. These have
been reversed in this checklist.
