Sanctions
Sanctions should:
Be fully understood by all staff, pupils and parents;
Be applied in a fair and consistent manner;
Be applied as soon as possible after the misdemeanour;
Focus on the misdemeanour rather than the pupil;
Take into account the age and ability of the pupil, any special needs he or she may have and
any other relevant circumstances.
The level of sanction would depend greatly on the severity of the misdemeanour. There may be a
slight variation depending on what each class agrees upon. However these consequences will be
agreed by the class in September, and displayed within the room and communicated with parents.
Possible Consequences are:-
Rule reminder or a verbal warning.
Second rule reminder accompanied by a move within the classroom, a move to another
classroom or withdrawal of some outside play time..
If a pupil does not respond to the imposed sanction within the school setting, the parent should
be made aware of the problem at an early stage. The homework diary can be used as a contact
book for two-way discussion with parents.
Parents will be informed if their child is being kept in regularly at break time.
At this stage it is essential that there is ongoing communication between parent and teacher.
If the behaviour continues the Key stage Leader should be informed. Further strategies will be
implemented. Serious behaviour will be reported to the Principal and discussed with parents.
If there is a consistent problem with a child’s behaviour, the teacher will liaise with the S.E.N.C.O. and
an appropriate Education Plan regarding behaviour will be devised. Further explanation is outlined in
the SEN Code of Practice.
This policy is kept under review by the Board of Governors.
