− the way to avoid accidents
Development of a new type of ferrule
In 2002 there was a fatal accident on a platform off the coast of Norway.
It cost a 29 year old man his life.
As the report above from Oljedirektoratet (OD) states, the accident happened, when a wire rope sling was dragged
over a container, got caught on the side and tilted the container over the man.
After the incident the offshore industry was enforced to develop a practice for safe lifting of equipment. Contacted
by the offshore industry, we started to look at the assembly of wire rope and ferrule. We developed many solutions
and tried them on the offshore market. The main goal was to streamline the ferrule so that it never got caught on
any obstacles. A separate conical part called Cone crane was a forerunner. Even though it worked perfectly this
additional item resulted in prolonged production time.
Together with the industry and with our
60 years of experience in the field we have
now developed a new streamlined ferrule
− TALUKON.
We have verified the strength by pull and
fatigue testing in our own test bed. Trial
out tests have also been done on site by
the offshore industry. It works! It is as easy
to swage as a TKH-ferrule and it is a safe
ferrule!

TALUKON presslåsen fra Talurit AB-
designet hindrer bl.a at låsen kan hekte
seg fast i objekter og reduserer derved
faren for uønskede hendelser ved
løfteoperasjoner.
I dette verkstedet utføres større testjobber.
Det er montert bl.a en 12 tonn traverskran
og en testjigg med 35 tonn kapasitet.
