Alarm and volume
The alarm is activated when there is smoke in the detector. The alarm signal is
approximately 85dB 3m. The alarm signal is active as long as there is smoke in
the detector. When there is no longer smoke in the detector, the smoke alarm
will revert to stand-by / normal operation automatically.
Alarm signals
Acoustic signal
One short beep app. every minute indicates that the battery is weak and must
be replaced.
Two short beeps indicate malfunction due to background light or outer
interruptions of the smoke chamber.
Three short beeps indicate technical malfunctions.
Four short beeps indicate that the smoke alarm is dirty and must be cleaned.
A continuous sound indicates that there is smoke in the detector.
Visual signal
One flash every eighth seconds indicates normal operation.
Two flashes every eighth seconds indicate reduced sensitivity (pause function).
A continuous flash indicates smoke detection.
How to stop the alarm
One short beep app. every minute:
Replace the battery. (See further under "Replacement of battery”).
Two short beeps:
Remove the background light or outer interruptions which causes the
disturbance of the smoke alarms operation.
Three short beeps:
The smoke alarm needs to be tested.
Note: Modifying or tampering with the internal components of the smoke
alarm may cause malfunction and will invalidate the warranty.
Four short beeps:
Clean the smoke alarm. (See further under "Maintenance").
Continuous signals (both visual and acoustic):
Alarm for smoke detection / fire.
(The alarm will sound as long as there is smoke in the detector.
The alarm can be stopped by pressing the red test button.)
Mounting
The smoke alarm should be fitted using the enclosed
mounting bracket, which is to be mounted in the
ceiling with one screw only (screw and plug for 5 mm
drill enclosed – please use a special plug for plaster
ceilings).
When the bracket is fixed, the smoke alarm is attached with a click. It is now firm
but can be turned for adjustment around the point to which it is attached.
Replacement of battery
The mounting plate makes it easy to pull down the smoke alarm for cleaning and
for replacement of the battery. As an extra safety precaution, the smoke alarm
cannot be mounted without a battery. The smoke alarm requires one 9 VDC
battery, type 6LR61 (included – mounted in the battery-compartment).
Please note: The smoke alarm normally operates up to 10 days from the first
indication of low battery.
Please note: At first time installation simply remove the plastic strip between the
terminals and the contact before mounting the smoke alarm.
Note: For optimal detection the smoke alarm should be installed in a suitable
location as described above.
After mounting and after every battery change, test the smoke alarm by pressing
the red test button until a penetrating, clear signal is heard. Make sure that
the red test button flashes every eighth second. When the alarm is set-off, a
penetrating, rapidly pulsating signal is given out (min. 85dB 3m). The alarm can
be stopped by pressing the red test button.
Maintenance
The following guidelines will help you care for the JACOB JENSEN TM Smoke Alarm
so you can enjoy using it for many years.
1. Keep the smoke alarm dry at all times. If it becomes wet, wipe it dry
immediately and remove the batteries. Liquids can contain minerals that might
corrode the electric circuits.
2. Use and store the smoke alarm only under normal temperature. Temperature
extremes can shorten the life of electronic components, damage the battery
and distort or melt plastic parts.
3. Handle the smoke alarm gently and with care. If it is dropped, circuit boards
can be damaged, resulting in malfunction.
4. Keep the smoke alarm free from dust and dirt to avoid the premature wear of
parts.
5. Clean the smoke alarm by wiping with a soft cloth. Do not use aggressive
chemicals, cleaning solvents or strong detergents.
6. Use only fresh batteries of the required size and type. We recommend Alkaline/
Top Grade batteries only. Always remove old or weak batteries as they might
leak chemicals that will destroy the smoke alarm.
7. Modifying or tampering with the internal components of the smoke alarm may
cause malfunction and will invalidate the warranty.
