Ralston is thankful veterans todayare not treated the same way as he and other Vietnamveterans were treated.Ruthie Gallington witnessed the ceremony in memoryof her husband, Dennis Gallington. “This ceremony meanseverything in the world,” she said. “Dennis left for Vietnamthree weeks after we married in 1968. He wrote to me everynight, and I still have the letters.”Jim York, another witnesses to the ceremony called it,“Wonderful.” York was a Forward Observer during the TetOffensive and said the re-dedication was due. “It was heartfeltand wonderful,” he said.On Saturday, Aug. 4, <strong>2012</strong>, children and spousesof <strong>181st</strong> <strong>Intelligence</strong> <strong>Wing</strong> members, along with someof their friends, participated in a mock deployment.The <strong>2012</strong> Operation Kids Deploy event was createdby the <strong>181st</strong> Family Readiness Group to give militarykids an idea of the process their parents and lovedones go through when they deploy to a location insupport of military operations.“Deployment” started at 7 a.m. in the base diningfacility, where the group of 43 children processedthrough a deployment line. <strong>Wing</strong> Commander Col.Donald Bonte, as well as Chief Doug Ackerman, andChaplain Maseah, briefed them on their “mission” forthe day, which included making new friends, workingtogether as a team, being safe and having fun.Our two counselors at the campus, David andEric, greeted us and led our group through their firstadventure. What followed was a day filled with manyopportunities for fun and learning! Team building exerciseswere a large focus of the mornings’ activities.By 3:30 pm that day, they had completed their“deployment!” Everyone returned by bus to the basedining facility where they were presented with certificatesof completion, dog tags with their name on themand backpacks filled with school supplies!Thanks to the efforts of our <strong>2012</strong> Kids Deploychairpersons, Mrs. Dana Stephens and Mrs. DebbieGoodin, and their children, as well as many otherFamily Readiness Group members and <strong>181st</strong> <strong>Intelligence</strong><strong>Wing</strong> members, this event was a huge success!181 <strong>Intelligence</strong> <strong>Wing</strong> 5 <strong>NovDec</strong> <strong>2012</strong>
