cycles of education. A case study and a qualitative research have been developed,<br />

with the purpose of raising some hypothesis for the scarce presence of men in this<br />

profession. The data collected was analyzed in light of the theoretical framework<br />

developed by Carlos A. Byington, based on his reflections on the works of C.G. Jung.<br />

The analysis of the data indicated an evident polarization between masculine and<br />

feminine universes in the individual conscience of participants of this research,<br />

possibly as consequence of still very active patriarchal dynamics. The revision of<br />

values, by being on the lookout for the taboos and misconceptions associated to the<br />

relation between teacher and pupil, seem to be of fundamental importance for the<br />

instauration of a dynamics of alterity in the field of education.<br />

Este artigo tem por meta apresentar <strong>um</strong> estudo reflexivo e teórico e comentar<br />

os dados de <strong>um</strong>a pesquisa realizada com educadores do sexo masculino, na<br />

tentativa de detectar as razões <strong>para</strong> o reduzido número de homens exercendo a<br />

função de <strong>professor</strong>es, principalmente nos ciclos iniciais de ensino. Esse é <strong>um</strong><br />

aspecto do perfil da educação no Brasil que considero relevante e que tem<br />

implicações importantes na <strong>relação</strong> <strong>professor</strong>/<strong>aluno</strong> e cultura, e do qual não se tem<br />

notícia de ter sido mencionado e tampouco percebido como <strong>um</strong> fenômeno<br />

significativo.<br />

Nessa pesquisa busquei detectar e compreender alg<strong>um</strong>as das causas <strong>para</strong> tal<br />

“desinteresse”, por parte da população masculina, nessa área de atuação.<br />
