OS NOVOS LISBOETAS
THE NEW LISBOANS

RESUMO No início deste milénio, Portugal viu-se confrontado com uma nova vaga de imigração, que
no espaço de uma década, atingiu cerca de um milhão, concentrando-se um número expressivo na
área da grande Lisboa. Ucranianos, russos, búlgaros, moldavos, romenos, chineses, brasileiros, nigerianos,
paquistaneses, senegaleses, indianos, enfim, um sem número de indivíduos de origens díspares
que buscam em Portugal um futuro melhor e têm mudado o aspecto humano da cidade de Lisboa.
É precisamente esta temática que tencionamos abordar nesta comunicação através da análise do documentário
de cariz político, Lisboetas, de Sérgio Tréfaut. O realizador dá a conhecer ao grande público,
não a Lisboa dos bairros típicos, mas uma cidade em profunda mudança, em que os recém-chegados,
os novos lisboetas, convivem com uma realidade hostil, que se materializa no desconhecimento do
idioma falado, nas fraudes a que estão sujeitos e na burocracia que enfrentam no Serviço de Estrangeiros
e Fronteiras.

ABSTRACT At the beginning of the new millennium Portugal has experienced a new wave of immigration
that, within a decade, increased to around a million, a high percentage of which is based in the
Lisbon area. Ukrainians, Russians, Moldavians, Romanians, Chinese, Brazilians, Nigerians, Pakistanis,
Senegalese, Indians, that is to say, an endless number of individuals of many origins who are looking for
a better future in Portugal, and who have changed Lisbon from a human viewpoint.
The present communication addresses this issue through the analysis of the political based documentary,
Lisboetas, by Sérgio Tréfaut. The director shows the public, not the Lisbon of the typical districts,
but a city that is dramatically changing. A city where the newly arrived, the new Lisboans, are faced
with a hostile reality, one where they don’t speak the language, one where they are subject to frauds,
or where they become acquainted with the bureaucracy of the Border and Immigration Services.
