The first Olympic Games for which we<br />
have written records took place in 776 BC<br />
in Olympia, a city in Greece. In 1894, the<br />
Frenchman Pierre Frédy, Baron of Coubertin,<br />
founded the International Olympic<br />
Committee, and the modern games started.<br />
Olympic Games happen every 4 years. The<br />
2008 games in Beijing had 302 events in 28<br />
sports. In 2012 the games were in London<br />
and in 2016 will be in Rio de Janeiro. One<br />
of the most important symbols of the games<br />
is the Olympic flame, which comes from<br />
Olympia and is carried by runners in relays<br />
to the host city.<br />
