English Idioms and Sayings: Nature Sayings and Proverbs Nature has been present in cultures allover the planet and throughout all times. Folkloric culture is probably the most representative aspect of a people's culture, that shows their main preoccupations, interests and level of comprehension of the outter world. Thus, idioms and sayings are a good example of folkloric production exemplifying the aspects mentioned above. Idioms and proverbs are sayings whose meanings are figurative rather than literal. Such sayings are often peculiar to a language. The English language has many sayings and proverbs that mention nature. The following section defines some common English proverbs that mention land. Next issue, proverbs mentioning water and sky features. Land Sayings The following nature sayings contain references to land features and mostly describe negative situations.
