MESSAGEOn behalf of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) I thank theDepartment of Education under the leadership of Secretary Jesli A. Lapusand our other partner organizations for the development anddissemination of teaching guides on saving and money management.Now, we are on track to institutionalize the integration of these basicfinancial lessons in the elementary grades curriculum.BSP pursued the integration of these lessons as a positive response tothe result of a survey which indicated that only less than 5% of ouryouth regularly save money.We believe that saving as a habit can best be developed amongschoolchildren who also wield influence in their homes and communities.An important component of this program is the commitment of ourpublic school teachers to undertake the challenge to teach saving andmoney management to elementary pupils.With the teachers of Edukasyong Pagpapakatao (EP), Sibika at Kulturaand Heograpiya, Kasaysayan at Sibika (SK and HEKASI), and EdukasyongPantahanan at Pangkabuhayan (EPP) at the forefront of this effort, weare confident that our youth will develop the habit and the discipline tosave and invest regularly for their future.We therefore thank all our teachers, principals and supervisors on whoseshoulders depend the success of this undertaking.We also acknowledge the support of the Curriculum DevelopmentDivision of the Bureau of Elementary Education, as well as the lessonexemplar writers, tryout teachers, supervisors, and principals fromdifferent school divisions who were involved in the development, pilottesting, validation and finalization of the teaching guides.Together, let us continue to nurture a new generation of Filipinos whoknow about saving and money management.Mabuhay!AMANDO M.
