This talk will take up the crucial significance of of
Wingham and Huron County in Munro’s
imagination. More than most writers,
Munro’s Home Place (Wright
Morris’s phrase, she acknowledges)
— its details, its textures, its mores,
its landscapes, and its geology
— is key to her accomplishment.
Tracing this from her early work
on, and detailing the importance of of
her 1973-75 return to Ontario
and Huron County from British
Columbia — I will try to define
her creation of of
“Alice Munro Country.”
