FERNDALE<br />
Affirmations<br />
Founded 1989. Mission: Affi rmations provides a<br />
welcoming space where people of all sexual orientations,<br />
gender identities & expressions, and cultures can fi nd<br />
support and unconditional acceptance, and where they<br />
can learn, grow, socialize and have fun.<br />
Affi rmations is Michigan’s longest running LGBT<br />
community center and is ranked as one of the 10 largest<br />
LGBT community centers in the country. Affi rmations<br />
serves the community by offering an array of support<br />
and discussion groups including: trans and cis gender<br />
specifi c groups, coming out over coffee, senior koffee<br />
klatch, smart recovery, smeared lipstick for self-identifi ed<br />
feminine lesbian women, transgender life support,<br />
newly single, FTM Detroit, Alcoholics and Narcotics<br />
Anonymous, Motor City Bears, a drop-in center and<br />
more.<br />
On top of the social opportunities Affi rmations offers<br />
a 7-week relationship skills course, counseling services,<br />
sexual health testing and a health and wellness network.<br />
Affi rmations has partnered with the CDC to offer<br />
intensive tobacco prevention and cessation programs.<br />
The organization provides youth ages 13-24 with<br />
a career focused 12-week training so that they can<br />
learn the soft and hard skill necessary for succeeding<br />
in the workforce. Additionally, Affi rmations hosts Delta,<br />
a transformational leadership program designated to<br />
provide LGBT professionals with education, training,<br />
networking and mentoring opportunities.<br />
GRAND RAPIDS<br />
Grand Rapids Pride Center<br />
Founded 1987. Mission: Empowering our<br />
LGBTQ community through supportive services and<br />
awareness.<br />
The Grand Rapids Pride Center has seen some<br />
changes in the past year, changing its name and<br />
some services. The GRPC offers support groups for<br />
youth, young adults, parents of LGBT individuals,<br />
trans and gender non-conforming individuals,<br />
parents of trans men and women as well support<br />
groups dedicated to serving men, women and<br />
families.<br />
The GRPC offers help for those navigating the<br />
coming out process, tobacco cessation, offers a<br />
six-week LGBT career development program and<br />
is committed to helping LGBT youth, young adults,<br />
adults and seniors build stronger, healthier and<br />
happier selves.<br />
The GRPC organizes the annual Grand Rapids<br />
Pride Festival the second largest LGBT pride fest in<br />
the state.<br />
