Colour Code<br />

RCB - Original records held by the Representative Church Body Library, Churchtown, Dublin 14<br />

PRONI - Original records held by the Public Records Office <strong>of</strong> Northern Ireland, Belfast [total 74].<br />

Additionally it can be assumed that PRONI holds while the micr<strong>of</strong>ilm copies <strong>of</strong> many collections for parishes<br />

in the nine counties comprising Ulster, and further information is available here…<br />

LOST - Parishes the records <strong>of</strong> which were lost in 1922, but for which subsequent materials were located and<br />

lodged either in the RCB Library or PRONI. Normally this colour code is followed by an RCB library or<br />

PRONI entry.<br />

LOST - Registers for this parish were in PROI in 1922 and were thus not saved<br />

(No colour) Parishes the records <strong>of</strong> which records remain in local custody.<br />

For parishes located in the nine counties <strong>of</strong> Ulster, and additionally some for county Louth, micr<strong>of</strong>ilm copies<br />

<strong>of</strong> most collections <strong>of</strong> surviving registers (up to the early 20 th century) are available in PRONI. For details<br />

Note that local clergy in both NI and ROI are however obliged to make available original registers in their<br />

custody available under both national legislation and in accordance with the Constitution <strong>of</strong> the Church <strong>of</strong><br />

Ireland.<br />

PROI - Parishes the records <strong>of</strong> which are deposited in whole or in part in PROI [total 9]. For details see NAI<br />

Reading Room catalogue. These account for those ROI collections that remained in the custody <strong>of</strong> PROI after<br />

1922, and thereafter in the NAI since.<br />

NOTE: With regards to dates, cover dates only <strong>of</strong> registers in the three categories <strong>of</strong> baptism, marriage or burials, are given in the table. For parishes with churches still in existence<br />

it may be assumed there are current registers, and thus the last date indicated on the table represents the last date on which material was either transferred to the RCB Library, or<br />

micr<strong>of</strong>ilmed either by PROI or PRONI.<br />

It has come to our attention that a number <strong>of</strong> transcripts <strong>of</strong> parish registers in the dioceses <strong>of</strong> Cork, Cloyne and Ross, and <strong>of</strong> Limerick, together with odd miscellaneous parishes<br />

from other Church <strong>of</strong> Ireland dioceses, compiled by the late Michael Leader, a former vice-President <strong>of</strong> the Irish Genealogical Research Society, are available in the library <strong>of</strong> that<br />
