WOOLASTON PARISH COUNCILReport Summer 2022September proved to be a monthlike no other with the passing of HerMajesty Queen Elizabeth II, and theproclamation of a new monarch, HisMajesty King Charles III.To mark these events, some of youjoined in with signing the ParishCouncil Book of Condolence at theMemorial Hall (so many heartfeltcomments about a much-lovedsovereign). The Book has now goneto the Gloucestershire Archives. TheParish Council Chairman and ViceChairman attended the proclamationfor the new King by the Chair of Forestof Dean District Council, CouncillorJulia Gooch, on Sunday 11 September2022 at the Forest of Dean DistrictCouncil offices.The Queens Platinum JubileeThere has been a great reaction fromthose who enjoyed the bank holidayweekend and the Jubilee Carnivalorganised by the Memorial HallCommittee the following weekend.The Parish Council would like toextend a huge thank you to everyoneinvolved in the organisation.Community OrchardThe Parish Council are continuingtheir commitment to looking after theCommunity Orchard. Community SpeedwatchThe Parish Council are looking at anumber of options to ask drivers toslow down and keep residents safe. Ithas registered with GloucestershireCounty Council Community Speedwatch scheme and requested assistanceand suggestions for ideas. Althoughthere are plans to instigate a speedwatch team in the Parish, morevolunteers are required. Meanwhile,may we please remind you, that “20 isplenty”.Parish Council Budget 2023/2024It will soon be time for Councillorsto decide on the budget for the nextfinancial year. Most of the ParishCouncil’s income comes from theCouncil Tax that Parishioners pay –this is referred to as the Parish Precept.The Parish Council share of theprecept is spent on matters relating toWoolaston and includes:Woolaston Parish Council holds itsmeetings in the Memorial Hall at 8pmon the second Thursday of each month(apart from January and August). TheParish Council meetings are meetingsheld in public – they are not publicmeetings, however all Parishionersare invited to attend to learn aboutthe activities of the Council.
