Las más grandes playas tienen
restaurantes a orillas del mar, desde
bonitos chiringuitos hasta elegantes
locales, y mucho más.
Cerca de la ciudad de Ibiza, las
extensiones de arena de Las Salinas
y Es Cavallet presentan una mezcla
ecléctica de gente y estilos. En el noreste
hay grandes bahías en Cala Nova, Cala
Llenya y Cala Llonga con playas más
pequeñas a lo largo de la costa. En el sur
está Cala d’Hort dominada por la mágica
Es Vedrà, y una cadena de grandes
playas que suben por la costa incluyendo
Cala Tarida, Cala Vedella y Cala Comte.
Cerca de Sant Antoni están Cala Bassa
y Cala Graciò, y en el norte Benirrás,

All of the larger beaches have
restaurants right on the sea ranging from
cute chiringitos to posh establishments,
and everything in between.
Near Ibiza town the sandy expanses of
Las Salinas and Es Cavallet feature an
eclectic mix of people and styles. In the
northeast there are large bays at Cala
Nova, Cala Llenya and Cala Llonga, with
smaller beaches all along the coast. In
the south, Cala d’Hort overlooks magical
Es Vedra, and a string of great beaches
going up the coast includes Cala Tarida,
Cala Vedella and Cala Comte. Near Sant
Antoni are Cala Bassa and Cala Gracio,
and in the north are Benirrás, Portinatx
and Sant Vicent.

Si vienes de una gran ciudad, sabes
bien cómo hacer compras en tiempo
récord ¿verdad?. Recuerdo cómo, en
el centro de Madrid, en menos de dos
horas había comprado unos zapatos,
un ordenador y hasta la compra de la
semana en el mismo establecimiento y
seguía con mi atareada vida, sin perder
ni un minuto.
Afortunadamente esa antigua realidad
se transforma cuando visitas Ibiza y
aquella costumbre de salir de compras
a encontrar algo se convierte en una
experiencia totalmente diferente, es
más bien una aventura. En vez de una
gran superficie de varios pisos donde
encontrarlo todo, tendrás que visitar
diferentes comercios para cumplir con tu
propósito y esta es una de las grandezas
que nos ofrece la isla. Además el tiempo
corre a tu favor y pasa más despacio en
comparación con las grandes ciudades.
Aquí el “poc a poc” y el “boca a boca” se
convierten en tus aliados fundamentales
a la hora de salir de compras. Podríamos
decir que aquí “salimos a buscar
tesoros”.

Tener tiempo y dedicarte un día de
compras por la isla es toda una maravilla:
visitar diferentes pueblos con sus locales
comerciales encantadores, disfrutar
de los caminos mientras conduces y
descubrir en ellos establecimientos de
carretera con productos de todo tipo,
o incluso pararte a tomar un vino en
alguna de las tiendas con restauración
que también encontrarás en tu recorrido.
Hay que tener los ojos abiertos a las
posibilidades para encontrar lo que
queremos porque, aunque pudiera
parecer que no, aquí tenemos de todo. El
proceso es al final el verdadero tesoro.
Otra buena costumbre en Ibiza es la
recomendación: pregunta a la gente de
tu entorno por lo que buscas, mira en las
guías o en internet y siempre descubrirás
algún lugar que desconocías. Una
pequeña tienda escondida en el puerto,
una tienda taller con piezas exclusivas...
esta isla está llena de creatividad, solo
hay que salir a buscarla.
Buscando
tesoros...
Hay un dicho popular en España que
dice: “Allá donde fueres haz lo que
vieres”. Esta otra forma de hacer las
cosas por la que adoramos vivir en
Ibiza es digna de ser vivida en todos
sus aspectos. Salir de compras es una
tradición histórica que se remonta a
tiempos de los mercaderes fenicios y
que Ibiza lleva grabado en su ADN.
Puede resultarte más fácil comprar lo
que necesitas online, pero sin duda te
estarás perdiendo un trocito de alma
y originalidad que te espera en alguna
parte de la isla.
Nuestra recomendación es que, si estas
visitando Ibiza, debes sentir parte
del entorno, que comas, duermas y
hagas tus compras como un verdadero
ibicenco. De esta manera, seguro que te
encantará tu tiempo en Ibiza.

right? I remember how, in the centre of
Madrid, in less than two hours I bought a
pair of shoes, a computer and even the
week’s food shop all in the same place,
and then went on with my busy life
without wasting a second.

Fortunately, that old reality changes
when you visit Ibiza, and going out
shopping becomes something totally
different, more like an adventure. Instead
of a single shopping mall with a number
of levels where you can find everything,
you will be visiting different shops in
order to fulfil your purpose. That is one
of the beauties of this island, where also
time runs in your favour, as it passes
more slowly than in large cities. Here
the philosophy of “poc a poc” (little by
little) and word of mouth become your
essential allies when it comes to going
out shopping. We could even say that

Having time and spending a day out
shopping around the island is really
marvellous: visiting different villages
with their charming shops, enjoying the
routes as you drive and discovering
along them those roadside locations
that offer all sorts of products, or even
stopping for a glass of wine at any of the
shops with bar or restaurant that you will
find along your way. You need to keep
your eyes open to the possibilities of
finding what you want because, although
it may not seem like it, we have a bit of
everything here. The process is the real
treasure, at the end of the day.
Another good habit that is practiced in
Ibiza is giving advice: ask people around
you about what you are looking for,
search in guides or on the internet, and
you will always find a place you did not
know about. A small shop hidden in the
port, a workshop with exclusive pieces…
the island is full of creativity – you only
need to go find it.
There is a popular saying in Spain that
means: “wherever you go, do what you
see”. This is a different way of doing
things, which adds to why we love living
on Ibiza, and it is worth enjoying at all
levels. Shopping is a historic tradition
here that goes back to the times of
Phoenician traders - it is engraved on
Ibiza’s DNA.
It may be easier to buy what you
need online, but without a doubt you
will be missing out on a piece of soul
and originality that is awaiting you
somewhere on this island.

Ibiza, you let yourself feel part of the
surroundings, that you eat, sleep and
shop like a true Ibicenco. In this way, we

Justo antes de llegar a la playa del
Puerto de San Miguel, hay una señal para
girar a la izquierda, hacia Na Xamena.
Se trata de una carretera que serpentea
suavemente hacia arriba a través del
bosque hasta llegar a su punto álgido:
la Hacienda Na Xamena. Este hotel de
cinco estrellas tan especial, que cuenta
con una de las vistas más impresionantes
de Ibiza, abrió sus puertas por primera
vez hace 50 años, aunque su inspiración
procede de una época aún más temprana.
Originalmente fue diseñado, construido
y dirigido por el arquitecto belga Daniel
Lipszyc, que era un visitante habitual de
la isla desde 1954. Se inspiró para crear
un hotel que reflejara su experiencia y la
cultura de la isla: la naturaleza, la gente y
la libertad.
Daniel buscaba la ubicación perfecta, y
un amigo ibicenco le dijo que conocía un
lugar que podría ser el adecuado, así que
fueron a verlo. En aquella época había
pocas carreteras, así que el simple hecho
de llegar al Puerto de San Miguel era
todo una aventura. Desde allí subieron
a la montaña, y en la cima se quedaron
boquiabiertos. La vista panorámica de
los acantilados y el mar era (y sigue
siendo) espectacular. Daniel quedó
prendado del lugar, pero no fue una tarea
fácil ya que no había carreteras, agua,

electricidad ni líneas telefónicas. Tuvo
que crear toda la infraestructura desde
cero, pero impertérrito lo hizo todo y
finalmente comenzó la construcción
en 1969. En 1971, la visión de Daniel se
hizo realidad cuando el hotel abrió sus
puertas, e inmediatamente se convirtió en
una meca para los viajeros que querían
un lujo discreto en un entorno natural
impresionante. El hotel cuenta con 77
habitaciones y suites que dan al mar
para que todos los huéspedes se vean
inmersos en la fuerza y la belleza de esa
increíble vista.
En 1995, el hijo de Daniel, Alvar Lipszyc,
y su mujer, Sabine, se hicieron cargo del
hotel. El diseño original había creado
una verdadera sensación de Ibiza que
se mezclaba a la perfección con la
naturaleza circundante. Ésta es la esencia
que hace de la Hacienda algo especial, y
Alvar ha traído ese sentimiento al siglo
XXI introduciendo muchos aspectos
nuevos en el hotel. Una de las principales
adiciones ha sido el Posidonia Botanic
Spa, que cuenta con Las Cascadas
Suspendidas, un tratamiento de
hidroterapia único de 45 minutos. Se
trata de un laberinto de ocho piscinas de
formas diferentes con vistas al mar y a los
acantilados. Cada piscina tiene un sistema
único de masaje por chorro de agua, y
a medida que se pasa de una a otra, el
cuerpo se estimula suavemente de la
cabeza a los pies.

Hacienda ha evolucionado a lo largo de
los años mejorando su visión original.
Al fin y al cabo es un lugar donde se
puede sentir realmente la alegría de
estar en Ibiza. Como dice Alvar: “Es un
placer compartir la sensación que evoca
Na Xamena, este lugar mágico; una
combinación de espectaculares vistas, la
puesta de sol y el entorno. Sencillamente,
todo confluye y hace que todo el mundo
se sienta de maravilla”.

Just before you get to the beach
at Puerto San Miguel, there is a sign
to turn left for Na Xamena. This road
gently winds its way upward through
the forest, going ever higher until
it suddenly reaches its climax: the
Hacienda Na Xamena. Overlooking one
of the most breathtaking views on Ibiza,
this very special five star hotel first
opened its doors 50 years ago, but its
inspiration came from an even earlier
era. It was originally designed, built and
managed by Belgian architect Daniel
Lipszyc, who had been a regular visitor
to the island since 1954. He was inspired
to create a special hotel that would
reflect his experience of the island and
its culture - the nature, the people and
the freedom.
Understated luxury
in a natural setting
Daniel was looking for the perfect
location, and an ibicenco friend said
he knew of a place that might be right,
so they went to see it. There were few
roads in those days, so just getting
down to Puerto San Miguel was an
adventure. From there they hiked up
the mountain, and at the top they

were stunned. The panoramic view of
the cliffs and the sea was (and still is)
spectacular. Daniel was hooked, but
this would not be an easy task as there
were no roads, water, electricity nor
telephone lines in the area. He would
have to create the entire infrastructure
from scratch, but undaunted he did it
all and eventually started construction
in 1969. In 1971 Daniel’s vision became
a reality as the hotel opened its doors,
and it immediately became a Mecca
for travellers who wanted understated
luxury in a breathtaking natural setting.
The hotel has 77 rooms and suites, and
each one faces the sea so that every
guest is immersed in the power and
beauty of that amazing view.
In 1995 Daniel’s son Alvar Lipszyc and
his wife Sabine took over running the
hotel. The original design had created
a true Ibiza feeling that blended
seamlessly with the surrounding nature.
This is the essence of what makes the
Hacienda special, and Alvar has brought
that feeling into the 21st century by
introducing many new aspects to the
hotel. One of the major additions was the
Posidonia Botanic Spa which features
Las Cascadas Suspendidas – a unique 45
minute hydrotherapy treatment. It is a
labyrinth of eight different-shaped pools
overlooking the sea and the cliffs. Each
pool has a unique hydro-jet massage
system, and as you move from one to
the next your body is gently stimulated
from head to toe.
This is just one example of how the
Hacienda has evolved over the years
by enhancing its original vision. At the
end of the day it is a place where one
can truly feel the joys of being on Ibiza.
As Alvar says, “It’s a pleasure to share
the feeling that this magical place, Na
Xamena, evokes; a combination of the
spectacular views, the sunset, the setting.
Quite simply, it all comes together and
makes everyone feel wonderful.”

Kurz bevor man den Strand von
Puerto San Miguel erreicht, gibt es
ein Schild, das links den Weg nach Na
Xamena weist. Die Straße schlängelt sich
sanft durch den Wald nach oben, immer
höher, bis sie plötzlich ihren Höhepunkt
erreicht: die Hacienda Na Xamena. Mit
Blick auf eine der atemberaubendsten
Küsten der Insel öffnete dieses ganz
besondere Fünf-Sterne-Hotel vor
50 Jahren seine Pforten. Aber seine
Inspiration stammt aus einer noch
früheren Ära. Ursprünglich wurde es
vom belgischen Architekten Daniel
Lipszyc, der seit 1954 regelmäßig auf
der Insel zu Gast war, entworfen, gebaut
und geleitet. Er wurde inspiriert, ein
besonderes Hotel zu schaffen, das seine
Erfahrungen mit der Insel und ihrer
Kultur widerspiegelt – die Natur, die
Menschen und die Freiheit.
Daniel war auf der Suche nach dem
perfekten Standort, und als ein
ibizenkischer Freund sagte, er kenne
einen Platz, der der richtige sein
könnte, fuhren sie hin, um ihn zu sehen.
Damals gab es nur wenige Straßen, so
dass allein die Fahrt nach Puerto San
Miguel ein Abenteuer war. Von dort
aus wanderten sie den Berg hinauf, auf

dem Gipfel angekommen, waren sie
überwältigt. Der Panoramablick auf die
Klippen und das Meer war – und ist es
immer noch – spektakulär. Daniel war
begeistert, aber er wusste, dass es keine
leichte Aufgabe sein würde, da es in der
Gegend weder Straßen, Wasser, Strom
noch Telefonleitungen gab. Er musste
die gesamte Infrastruktur von Grund auf
neu schaffen, aber unerschrocken tat er
alles und begann 1969 mit dem Projekt.
1971 wurde Daniels Vision Wirklichkeit,
als das Hotel seine Pforten öffnete –
und es verwandelte sich sofort in ein
Mekka für Reisende, die dezenten Luxus
in einer atemberaubenden natürlichen
Umgebung suchten.
Im Jahr 1995 übernahmen Daniels
Sohn, Alvar Lipszyc, und dessen Frau
Sabine die Leitung des Hotels. Das
ursprüngliche Design verströmte
schon ein echtes Ibiza-Gefühl, das
sich nahtlos in die umgebende Natur
einfügte. Alvar steigerte dieses Gefühl
noch, indem er im Laufe der Jahre viele
neue Aspekte in das Hotel integrierte.
Eine der wichtigsten Neuerungen
war das „Posidonia Botanic Spa“ mit
„Las Cascadas Suspendidas“ – eine
einzigartige 45-minütige Hydrotherapie-
Behandlung, in einem Labyrinth aus
acht unterschiedlich geformten Pools
mit Blick auf das Meer und die Klippen.
Jedes Becken hat ein einzigartiges
Hydro-Jet-Massagesystem, und während
man sich von einem zum nächsten
bewegt, wird der Körper sanft von Kopf
bis Fuß stimuliert.
Dies ist nur ein Beispiel dafür, wie
sich das Hacienda im Laufe der Jahre
entwickelt hat, indem die ursprüngliche
Vision weiterentwickelt wurde.
Letztendlich ist das Hotel zu einem Ort
geworden, an dem man wirklich die
Freuden des Insellebens spüren kann.
Wie Alvar sagt: „Es ist ein Vergnügen,
dieses Gefühl zu teilen, das dieser
magische Ort, Na Xamena, hervorruft;
eine Kombination aus spektakulären
Aussichten, dem Sonnenuntergang
und der Kulisse. Es kommt einfach
alles zusammen und gibt jedem ein
wunderbares Gefühl.“
