Y a pesar
*It‟s the „punk „of art. Seems like it started in the „70s with underground comics. I like the term „modpop‟ better. It stands for modernism
and pop‟ art. I hate the term „lowbrow.‟ – Del libro Weirdo deluxe: The wild world of pop surrealism & lowbrow art, pg 59, On
Lowbrow, Tim Biskup interview.
**At this point, I really don‟t feel my work fits in any particular „-ism.‟ Being in Detroit, I‟m pretty much isolated from popular art cliques, I
think. – Del libro Weirdo deluxe: The wild world of pop surrealism & lowbrow art, pg 43, On Lowbrow, Glenn Barr interview.
***I love the term Lowbrow. I am thrilled to be catalogued as part of a movement with a name and such a diverse constituency of artists.
There is much resistance to the name by so many of the artists who are considered part of the movement, but I think that is only positive.
No matter what, I think that this catch-all movement is going to become an actual chapter in the art history books, and I am extremely
honored to be a part of it. – Del libro Weirdo deluxe: The wild world of pop surrealism & lowbrow art, pg 87, On Lowbrow, Stacy
Lande interview.
I wouldn‟t consider myself a lowbrow artist. It‟s easy to put me into that category. It‟s more of a lifestyle thing. I have a lowbrow lifestyle.
That fits me into a lowbrow art. Seems like now La Luz de Jesus gallery is filled with work by art school graduates. To me it looks like
illustration. You don‟t see art like Robert Williams did. Before it was a chick with tits being raped by a robot. Robert Williams got in trouble
for making that kind of painting. Now lowbrow is becoming safe and cutesy. – Del libro Weirdo deluxe: The wild world of pop
surrealism & lowbrow art, pg 91, On Lowbrow, Liz McGranth interview.
