Distribution: Western Atlantic: Brazil (Pará to São<br />

Paulo) (Melo, 1999; Coelho et al., 2007).<br />

Ecological notes: Under rocks, tree trunks, wood,<br />

on polychaete sand reefs (probably Sabellariidae),<br />

associated with Crassostrea rhizophorae beds, on the<br />

octocoral Carijoa riisei (Duchassaing & Michelotti,<br />

1860) (Anthozoa: Clavulariidae), on red algae tufts,<br />

and among barnacles on a jetty. Salinity range: 28-38.<br />

Remarks: Calado (1998) reported Bahia as the<br />

southern limit for this species in the western Atlantic,<br />

but did not mention the locality. Mucuri, the<br />

southernmost limit <strong>of</strong> the study area (18°05’20.7”S,<br />

39°33’14.6”W), may represent the southermost<br />

collection locality <strong>of</strong> E. portoricencis to the present.<br />
