Find the reason that inspires you Achieving our Best Self Victoria Díaz-Zorita When referring to self-improvement, in order to obtain good results in what this person is looking forward, plenty of other concepts are involved. One of the questions I asked in the survey I designed for this seminar, consisted in which is the basis of selfimprovement. To guide the person, I gave a list of six different options among which “motivation” was among the most chosen ones. As soon as I analyzed the information obtained in this question, I began to investigate a bit more about motivation and its role when a person looks forward to improve in some area of their lives. And in fact, this is very common as from the first book I read on self-improvement. Motivation is mentioned several times as one of the keys leading to success. What I first did was to introduce myself into the concept and searched for the definition of motivation. Motivation is known as the internal and external factors that stimulate desire and energy in people to be continually interested and committed to a job, role or subject, or to make an effort to attain a goal 10 . With this, I decided to include in all the interviews I made a question related to motivation and as a result I could find out how it is appreciated in different areas and points of view. This is the reason why it is going to be the basis of this chapter. Something interesting about the interviews I made is that although all of these people have gone through or are living at the moment a situation of self-improvement, two of them could give me as well an opinion from a leader’s point of view. For instance, the interviews I made combine internal as well as external motivation. In the case of artists, they generally justified their motivation towards a goal as something provided by the people around them (friends, family or public). They feel that theirs are huge challenges, as for example dedicating to art as a living, impossible to achieve if the people around them do not support them with this. However, one of them (Marcela Vicente 11 ) assured that all dough she goes on with her dream inspired on the same as the rest of the artists, Marcela made it clear that she believes that internal motivation plays a huge part on this journey no matter who you are.
