Watsonville Slough Restoration
Watsonville has one of the largest
freshwater wetlands left along
the Central Coast. Wetlands like these
support an incredible diversity of wildlife,
including migratory birds that could not
complete their journeys without having
this habitat as a rest stop and place to
re-fuel on their migration. Wetlands also
have an impact on humans. The water and
vegetation in riparian habitats cool our
town, help with air quality and provide
opportunities for recreation.
The City has been restoring habitat and
adding trails along the wetlands for about
10 years. The work along the stretch of
the slough between Ohlone Parkway and
Highway 1 is the final phase of a 25-acre
wetlands restoration project. The newly
dug channel was widened from about 20
feet to 100 feet. The restored slough will
hold more water, providing some measure
of flood protection. The bare ground will

Utility Bill Dates
Will Change
In an effort to provide better
customer service, beginning January
of 2013, the City will be changing
the billing dates for utility services.
You will receive your bill at a different
time of the month, and the due date
on your bill will change. For more

international visitors to our local wetlands.

New Space to Dine Late at Night
Food trucks are becoming very popular
nation-wide. Watsonville residents
have been lucky for many years, since
we have some great food prepared by
these mobile vendors available in our
community. They aren’t always easy to
find, since they mostly serve the fields and
industrial areas. That is about to change!
The City Council has approved a threemonth
trial project that allows food trucks
to park on Peck Street (next to the Plaza)
on Friday and Saturday nights from 9 p.m.
to midnight.
If you are looking for a delicious bite late
at night, come down to Peck Street and
check out the food. The safe atmosphere

To balance the City’s budget, most
City services including finance/
cashier counters will be closed beginning
Monday, December 24th and will
reopen on Monday, January 7th. Avoid
standing in line to pay your December
bill. Try these alternate methods:

2) the green drop-box at rear parking
of City Hall.

Restauración de los Pantanos de Watsonville
Watsonville cuenta con uno de los
pantanos de agua fresca más grandes
restantes a lo largo de la Costa Central. Los
pantanos como éste mantienen una diversidad
increíble de vida silvestre, que incluye
aves migratorias que no podrían completar
su travesía sino contaran con este hábitat
como lugar de descanso y como lugar para
recuperarse en su migración. Los pantanos
también tienen un impacto sobre los humanos.
El agua y la vegetación en los hábitats ribereños
refrescan nuestra ciudad, ayudan a la calidad
del aire, y brindan oportunidades recreativas.
La Ciudad ha estado restaurando el hábitat y
agregando senderos a lo largo de los pantanos
por cerca de 10 años. El trabajo del tramo del
pantano entre Ohlone Parkway y Highway 1 es
la última fase de este proyecto de restauración
de 25 acres de pantanos. El canal recién
cavado fue expandido de casi 20 pies a 100
pies. El pantano restaurado contendrá más
agua, proporcionando algunas medidas de

Cambio de Fecha
de su Factura
Para brindarle un mejor servicio al
cliente, comenzando en enero de 2013,
la Ciudad estará cambiando la fecha
de facturación de sus servicios de agua
y basura. Recibirá su factura un día
diferente del mes y la fecha de pago de
su recibo también cambiará. Para más

Un Lugar Nuevo para Cenar por la Noche
Las loncheras se están volviendo
muy populares a lo largo del país.
Los residentes de Watsonville han sido
muy afortunados por muchos años, ya que
contamos con comida excelente, preparada
por estos vendedores ambulantes disponibles
en nuestra comunidad. No son siempre fáciles
de encontrar, debido a que la mayoría atienden
a los campos y áreas industriales. ¡Eso está a
punto de cambiar!
El Concilio de la Ciudad ha aprobado un
proyecto a prueba de tres meses que le permite
a las loncheras estacionarse en la calle Peck
(a un costado de la Plaza) el viernes y sábado
por la noche de 9 p.m. hasta la medianoche.
Si está en busca de algo delicioso para comer
tarde por la noche, véngase a la calle Peck
y pruebe la comida. El ambiente seguro es

maravilloso para las familias y los jóvenes en
busca de buena comida a precios muy razonables.
Si le gustaría agregar a su lonchera al programa,
