INFORMATVO SEMANAL_________________________________________________________
Fixed-term contract of 5 years
Within the Science Division, the Time-of-Flight & High Resolution (TOF-HR) group uses a powerful
technique to investigate the dynamical properties of matter. Neutron Spin Echo (NSE) is the highest
resolution neutron spectroscopic method to investigate the dynamical properties of matter. IN15 has the
highest resolution and highest flux among the NSE instruments worldwide.
It is particularly well suited for quasi-elastic neutron scattering studies in the low Q range (0.02 –0.5 Å-1)
and small energy exchange ∆E ~ neV – µeV regime. Mostly used for studying dynamics in soft matter, but
also in biology, in magnetic systems and slow molecular dynamics.
The instrument is just being upgraded and we are expecting even better unmatched performance. It has a
wide user base and is one of the most demanded ILL instruments.
Duties :
You will be in charge of:
Co-managing the instrument IN15
Providing support to users for scientific experiments on IN15 and helping them collect data under optimum
conditions
Initiating development and maintenance for this instrument
Developing strong collaborations for your own scientific work
You will also be encouraged to extend your activity to another NSE instrument (WASP) under construction,
having smaller resolution but very high angular coverage.
Qualifications / Experience :
You have:
a PhD related to the field
experience in neutron scattering and an interest in the dynamics of materials and magnetism
a taste for experimental activities and hands on experience in instrumentation
software development skills for data treatment and some interest in electronics will be appreciated
The post represents an excellent opportunity for a postdoctoral scientist to develop expertise, broaden
his/her experience and interact with leading scientists from around the world.
Applications from more experienced scientists who are able to obtain a secondment period from their
home institute are also encouraged.
Language skills:
As an international research centre, we are particularly keen to ensure that we also attract applicants from
outside France. You must have a sound knowledge of English and be willing to learn French (a language
course will be paid for by the ILL). Knowledge of German would be an advantage.
Notes:
Fixed-term contract: 5 years.
Further information can be obtained by contacting the head of the TOF-HR group: Dr. B. Farago, tel.:
+33(0)4 76 20 73 47, e-mail: farago@ill.eu or via www.ill.eu/instruments-support/instruments-groups//
(please do not send your application to this address).
Benefits:
Generous company benefits (expatriation allowance), relocation assistance and language courses may be
offered for you and your spouse (for more information, please consult our employment conditions).
HOW TO APPLY:
Please submit your application with a list of publications and the name of 3 references (including one from
your present work place) on-line, no later than 04/01/2015, via our web site:
http://www.ill.eu/carrieres
(vacancy reference: 14/19).
