Lyrical Reference in Spain.
The 7th edition of the Gala of the Campoamor Theatre Lyrical
Awards will be held in Oviedo the 6th of April, consolidating as the
major reference in the Lyrical scene in Spain. Despite the economic
recession, Oviedo has been the only Spanish city to maintain the
budget allocated to culture in 2013, reason for which this new edition
of the awards represents an unprecedented support to the work
carried out by Spanish theatres and festivals which are immerse in
severe budgetary cuts.
Among the “10 elected” this year by a jury chaired by the diplomatic
Inés Argüelles, and formed by Spanish journalists and critics
renowned among music enthusiasts, are the woman opera singer
Sondra Radvanovsky, especially noteworthy for her more recent
interpretations of Aida and Norma; the tenor Celso Albelo, the production
with a capital imprint by Peter Grimes, “La Fura dels Baus”,
“El Gato Montés” as best Spanish opera production or zarzuela and
master Alberto Zedda, for his career.
The Campoamor Theatre Lyrical Awards Foundation was created
in October 2005 as an initiative by the City Council of Oviedo and
had the support from a group of people linked to the musical life
in Oviedo and from several companies. The awards it grants every
year are the only lyrical awards held in Spain that group all the theatres
and are considered as a reference in the sector. More than two
hundred and fifty candidacies have presented to the 10 categories
awarded in this current seventh edition.
