Delegation of Tanzania
IME never takes time off” (St.
“T Augustine). In fact time is the gift of
God to us to use it and even concretely to live
it. Within time all the events of our life do
occur. It is one the mysteries of reality. When
the baby hare asked its mother when will end
the time, the answer was silence. Who can
measure time? “What is time for? Who could
find any quick or easy answer to that? In fact
time can be described well by living it. Time is
to be created always by man, which is why no
one can live outside time! That will be
equivalent to no existing!
It is within this time that the Saint Augustine
Delegation of Tanzania has been living and
moving during the last four months, which
were full of many and significant events in its
life. It is true that the different communities
have different rhythms because of their
different activities but the variations are
minimal.
The community of Mahanje was blessed and
even overwhelmed by the preparation of the
ordination of Br. Seraphim Mwageni who was
ordained on the 9th of July, 2009 at Madaba,
his home parish outstation. It was a busy time
for all the parishioners of Mahanje and the
Augustinian community of Mahanje. The
parishioners had to prepare the church building
still in construction to be used during that day.
They managed to arrange it in such a way that it
was unbelievable for us all. The celebration was
assisted by five bishops. The host Archbishop
Norbert Mtega of Songea, His Eminence
Emmanuel Cardinal Wamala, Archbishop Emeritus
of Kampala Uganda, Bishop Callistus Rubaramila,
Bishop of Kabale, Uganda; Bishop John Baptist
Kakubi, Bishop Emeritus of Mbarara, Uganda;
Bishop Paul Lokiru Kayanda, Bishop Emeritus of
Fort Portal, Uganda. Br. Seraphim was ordained by
His Eminence Emmanuel Cardinal Wamala.
After a three hours celebration, a presentation of
local dances from different groups was done. The
entertainments were followed by a grand meal.
The Bishops left soon after the first part of the
entertainments because the majority of them were
advanced in age and so they had to rest. Everyone
was happy and content with many tales about the
event because it was the first time for an
ordination to take place at Madaba. The next day
it was the thanksgiving mass at the home of Fr.
Seraphim Mwageni. It was a moment of the
family to unite and even the whole clan to come
together.
After this event at Madaba-Songea, there was no
time to rest because another ordination was
expected at Ifakara, Mahenge Diocese, the native
parish of Br. Fidelis Mfalanyombo. The ordination
of Br Fidelis Mfalanyombo was celebrated on the
18 th of July 2009. Bishop Agapitus Ndorobo was
the ordaining minister accompanied by a big
number of priests with a church full of faithful. It
was also a good moment for the Order of St.
Augustine to be known in the diocese of Mahenge
and the Bishop was not selfish on this. He
generously offered a good presentation of the
Augustinians by showing the different
congregations present in his diocese. He offered
to the Augustinian a parish by presenting an
informal invitation but we advised him to write to
Rev. Fr. General and his General Council in Rome.
