FRAGMENTS OF MEMORY.
The work of Germán Benjumea is the result of a process of inquiry that originated
from individual learning, enhanced with professional academic training and
today presented as a knowledge agent within the disciplines that have to do with
the arts.
For several years he has studied in depth the ideological aspects of architecture
and issues related to land use in settlement and displacement processes. In his
urban and rural tours, he gathers the experiences of the community such as the
landscape, the memories of the conflict, compiling a work rich in symbols, characters,
traces and colors in his notebook that is later transferred to painting.
This exercise has been approached from a simple vision in the subjects with an
extraordinary development of the forms, the color highlighted with the drawing
in a palette that takes us to a few moments of reverie and with the well-arranged
elements give a sense of a painting of representative character. The artist is not
interested in the pompous languages of the contemporary pictorial construction
of art, but the simple and identifiable representations by the realities and dreams
of the spectator.
