SAN NICOLAS DE LOS GARZA TO NOVEMBER 29th, 2019
INTRODUCCION
In this work I asked for went and observe a class at public school Isaias Balderas
Torres in Santa Catarina. I observed the group 4°B with the teacher Paty, The idea of
the observation is see if the teacher or the classroom are related with some concepts
that we saw this semester.
1
Observation
Motivation
Motivated behavior is behavior that is energized, directed, and sustained.
(Santrock, 2011) Motivation is divided by:
-Extrinsic motivation which involves doing something to obtain something else
or to avoid an unpleasant consequence.
-Intrinsic motivation: involves the internal motivation of doing something for its
own.
Children must arrive before 8 am, when the bell rings; they must go out and make lines
of men and women, depending of the group. Once all were ordered, the song “De ellos
aprendi” began to play and the children began doing an exercise with the arms, legs
and head.
The next activity was almost at the end of the day, children reminded the teacher about
the warm-up they do and they danced the song “Chu Chu Ua”. I identify these cases as
intrinsic motivation, because children almost ran for go and dance the songs. they
wanted to do without the teacher asked them to did.
Arrangement style.
In thinking about how you will organize the classroom physical space, you
should ask yourself what type of instructional activity students will mainly be
engaged in. (Weinstein, 2007).
This arrangement inhibits face-to-face student contacts, and the teacher is free
to move anywhere in the room.
Children are organized by number of list and the desks are in the face-to-face
arrangement style, the teacher desk is not in front of the group but she stands up and
talk in front of the class, the classroom don’t have a platform but she likes go around
the desks and observe if the students were working in the activities and help them if
they had a doubt o problem for solve it
Personalizing the Classroom
According to classroom management experts Carol Weinstein and Andrew
Mignano (2007), classrooms too often resemble motel rooms pleasant but
impersonal, revealing nothing about the people who use the space. keeping in
2
mind the basic principles we have described should help you create an optimal
classroom arrangement for learning.
Something that caught my attention was the classroom; it was decorated with the
children´s draw; maps of Mexico, Nuevo León, Latin America and the world; Images of
the special days of the moth; health recommendations; Numbers and words in English;
numbers and the alphabet. In addition, the classroom has a small library, games to
learn the numbers and mathematical operations and book in case a student forgets his
book.
Attention
Attention is the focusing of mental resources. (Santrock, 2011)
There are three types of attention:
-Selective attention is when you focused on a specific aspect of experience that
is relevant
● Divided attention involves concentrating on more than one activity at the same
time.
● Sustained attention is the ability to maintain attention over an extended period
of time.
● Executive attention involves action planning, allocating attention to goals, error
detection and compensation, monitoring progress on tasks, and dealing with
novel or difficult circumstances.
Is important that children known when is necessary focused all their attention in an
activity or in two and in the classroom I could see two types of attention. The first one, I
related with Selective attention because, although children were talking and playing,
when the teacher started to talk, everyone paid attention. I don’t know if they paid
attention because I was there but they looked and listen the teacher.
The second one, I related with dived attention. They read some information about
different cultures and how they work; their clothes; principal alimentation and other
information.
They have to read and look for the answers to some questions. but they talked about
the answer to know if it was correct.
Conceptual understanding.
Concepts group objects, events, and characteristics on the basis of common
properties. Concepts help us to simplify, summarize, and organize information
3
(Quinn, 2009, 2011).
Conceptual understanding is a key aspect of learning. Conceptual understanding
is enhanced when teachers explore a topic in depth and give appropriate,
interesting examples of the concepts
I relate this concept with the English class, the teacher started to ask to children for
things that we can buy like fruits, toys, clothes, candies and more. After that he asked
children if they know the way of ask for the price of something.
I think he wanted to teach them from general information about how much and how
many to specific information like the structures. He didn’t come and said “Here is the
structures of how much and how many. You can use when you want to know the price
of something” But I couldn’t see all the class because the teacher Paty asked me to
help her to decorate outside for the event to the next day.
Critical thinking
Critical thinking involves thinking reflectively and productively and evaluating the
evidence. (Santrock, 2011)
During The class, they did mathematics exercise and the teacher didn’t tell them where
they wrong, she asked them to think what the problem was. Also, when they saw new
vocabulary about abbreviations, she asked them if they know what was or where they
saw it, she asked for the meaning in case someone knew the answer.
Getting students to cooperate
You want your students to cooperate with you and abide by classroom rules
without always having to resort to discipline to maintain order (Charles, 2011).
About the participation of children. All of them wanted to say the answer of the
problems of the questions, children wanted to do the errands of the teacher. Also,
something interesting was that a child spilled some juice in the desk but he did not wait
for the teacher´s instructions, he went and look a mop for clean the floor.
And the funniest, when teacher had to go out, everybody wanted to come forward to
write the names of the persons who raised from their desk
Transfer
Transfer occurs when a person applies previous experiences and knowledge to
4
learning or problem solving in a new situation (Mayer, 2008).
I related this concept to the case of mathematical exercises, the teacher were teaching
about multiplications but she was help to understand something that it supposed they
had to see last year but the other teacher didn’t help children to understand correctly
how resolve multiplications with one number, so the teacher Paty has to delay to
teaching them multiplications with two numbers
Creating, teaching, and maintaining rules and procedures
both rules and procedures are stated expectations about behavior (Evertson &
Emmer, 2009).
Rules focus on general or specific expectations or standards for behavior.
Procedures, or routines, also communicate expectations about behavior, but they
usually are applied to a specific activity, and their aim is to accomplish
something instead of prohibiting a behavior or defining a general standard
(Evertson & Emmer, 2009).
The classroom has rules in one part of the wall, it has some like, not taking the things of
others without permission, not eating in the classroom, not running, throwing garbage in
its place and on the other hand children know they should not ask to go to the bathroom
so many times or wear the uniform without having it written on paper

Conclusion
The experience that i have in the observation was good. Children talk with me in the
break and the teacher was so polite and kind. So, mi idea of being a teacher doesn’t
change. I know that being a teacher is not so easy how some people say. You have to
be preparing to help to all the students to learn and they don’t learn in the same way,
they have to change their methods all the years.
I think that you have to take some courses for expand your vision for use different
materials, schools need understand that they have to contract professionals who are
persons correctly prepared to face different situations that others may not be able to
do.
