Celebrating

100th birthday

Lamentablemente cuando el Bulletin se estaba diseñando,

el Sr. Terence Greig Van de Velde falleció.

Compartimos la nota que escribió su hija Diana Van de Velde

BVI 1975 y el post que publicó en Instagram su nieta, Sonia

Haddad, resumiendo muy bien su legado.

Terence Greig Van de Velde,

born in England in 1918, father

and grandfather of past

pupils, celebrated his one

hundredth birthday and received

a birthday card and message

from Her Majesty Queen

Elizabeth II.

My sister Christine (CV 1972),

my daughter Sonia (Economics

2004), and myself (BVI

1975), together with the rest

of the family, of course, have

been lucky enough to have

celebrated our father and

grandfather’s one hundredth

birthday on 30th December

2018. We thought it would be

nice to share our joy with the

Michael Ham community, as

our parents chose this wonderful

school for their daughters’

education, way back in

the 1960s, choice we are so

grateful for, as I’m sure Sonia

is as well, as she followed our

footsteps.

Terry, as he is known, was

born in Fulham, London,

England, on 30th December

1918, at the end of World War

I. He was the second of seven

siblings and in the same way

his father had been enlisted

during WWI, when WWII

broke out, our father, having

qualified as an Aircraft Radio

Officer and Service Engineer

for the Marconi Company,

became a recruit in the Royal

Signals Battalion at Woolwich

Barracks. After a year he rejoined

Marconi’s Air Division
