Celebrating
100th birthday
Lamentablemente cuando el Bulletin se estaba diseñando,
el Sr. Terence Greig Van de Velde falleció.
Compartimos la nota que escribió su hija Diana Van de Velde
BVI 1975 y el post que publicó en Instagram su nieta, Sonia
Haddad, resumiendo muy bien su legado.
Terence Greig Van de Velde,
born in England in 1918, father
and grandfather of past
pupils, celebrated his one
hundredth birthday and received
a birthday card and message
from Her Majesty Queen
Elizabeth II.
My sister Christine (CV 1972),
my daughter Sonia (Economics
2004), and myself (BVI
1975), together with the rest
of the family, of course, have
been lucky enough to have
celebrated our father and
grandfather’s one hundredth
birthday on 30th December
2018. We thought it would be
nice to share our joy with the
Michael Ham community, as
our parents chose this wonderful
school for their daughters’
education, way back in
the 1960s, choice we are so
grateful for, as I’m sure Sonia
is as well, as she followed our
footsteps.
Terry, as he is known, was
born in Fulham, London,
England, on 30th December
1918, at the end of World War
I. He was the second of seven
siblings and in the same way
his father had been enlisted
during WWI, when WWII
broke out, our father, having
qualified as an Aircraft Radio
Officer and Service Engineer
for the Marconi Company,
became a recruit in the Royal
Signals Battalion at Woolwich
Barracks. After a year he rejoined
Marconi’s Air Division
