Light that illuminate
from translucency

The greenery has seen filling
the gap of the space
underneath the bridge. It looks
like the bridge has a dark space
underneath. Yet as I walk into

that it is a shelter where birds

The texture of the surfaces have revealed what one could see if they really look into the voids and
capture something at a different perspective.

The Dhoby Ghaut Green has structural sweeping curves that contrast with the
urban backdrop while its rippling metallic façade complements and adds texture
to the park environment. Its porous surface allows views inward and outward.
As one enters, they would find themselves being an amphitheater that is enclosed yet
open. This is contrasting to the engulfing surface one sees from the outside.

Plants have 'eats' up what could have been an open space for the shophouses' facade and the view of the Imperior condo on my slice
The cover of plants has made the buildings more conservative. It piques my curiosity to find out what is in store behind the plants.

Vague memories- when I did not pay much attention to these living
creatures, they become merely just an impression as they do not have
distinctive features that would make me ponder 21

In this slice visit, I look into the different surfaces of the openings and
want to find out the kind of activities that are going on inside. It helps
me open up a new perspectives when I took photos that help me with
my observation and realizing the pattern. I know my city could be about
the surfaces- Transparency in the opacity/ Translucency
After 5 site visits of observing my city, I realize many of shops and structures have a surface that is hard to see through. Buildings
are relatively conservative. There are many distracting factors that can cause one to neglect what is within. It takes initiative for
one to look beyond the translucency to find out what is in store.

L I G H T
Light creates mood and evokes emotion. As it is shadowing the streets of the city, it is a
revelation of its people and activities. The movement would make the city a collective soul as
it tells the story that is happening at the transitory moment.
Conclusion 36

A City of Understanding from Within
Since my city is conservative in the sense that buildings and spaces are covered by
materiality and texture, people should question what is in store in them. It takes initiative for
one to look beyond the surfaces and dive into noticing the details from the conservative
building bodies. Only then, they would open up and reveal its people and activities. It is a
satisfying observatory process when one understands the spaces from inside out.
