It was the 20th of July 2019, it was a normal Saturday
morning until my parents decided that we should go to SM
City along with Jysha. During that time was the release of the
Lion King Movie and the 16 km trip to SM City lasted 15
minutes via family car. Using the fastest route which is SRP,
we arrived at around 10:30 hungry but decided to walk
around first and then chose to dine at Mooon Cafe which is a

Known for its delectable choices of
food and drinks, vibrant aesthetic
and welcoming ambiance, Mooon
Café was established in Guadalupe
by a group of artists in 2007. When
the business was on the rocks, the
owners decided to sell it to the
Pages Holdings Inc. The Mooon Café
is currently one of the most
flourishing restaurants in Cebu and
is gradually conquering the rest of
the Philippines. It is a Mexicaninspired
restaurant but also serves
local and international cuisine.
Nevertheless, it mostly caters and
follows cuisines from the Mexican
culture and the interior is
reminiscent of a Mexican cantina.

EXPERIENCE
The last time we ate in mooon cafe was on 20th
of July 2019. It was a Saturday morning when
my parents decided to go to the cinema with
Jysha to watch Lion King. We arrived hungry
and after a long walk we decided to eat lunch
in Mooon Cafe. We waited for a bit since you
can’t enter if they haven’t set up a table for you
and there were a group of people ahead of us.
As soon as you enter you hear trendy music
playing, happy diners conversing and get
caught by the mouthwatering aroma of the
dishes getting served. While waiting for the
food or as soon as you enter you will see how
the restaurant completely imitated the
traditional mexican cantina, this includes the
furniture, decor and color palette. The warm
colors and atmosphere completely gave an at
home feeling. The neatness was also noticeable
despite the negative feedback given by some
diners. Foodwise, one can immediately tell that
they mostly cater mexican cuisines but also
serve filipino favorites and some international
dishes too. While ordering you will immediately
notice how reasonable the price ranges are and
the serving was fairly big for an average
filipino. Among the mexican dishes we tried
were fillet mignon, nacho spinners,
chimichanga, quesadilla and pizza. All of the
tasted meals were able to give a mild taste of
mexican culture, not too overpowering, enough
to pique a Filipino family’s palate. My personal
favorite is their fillet mignon. It is best to note
that dishes are being served about 20-30
minutes depending on how busy the restaurant
is, waiters are attentive and easily cater needs
such as refills.

OVERALL
RATING
The overall experience gives off a
comforting home feeling since the
ambiance, color palette, service, food
and music really puts one at ease.
The furniture and color palette really
compliment each other in presenting
a traditional Mexican cantina and the
foods are balanced, making them
suitable for people who are not
interested in overpowering flavors.
However, a lot of people will be
bothered by the waiting time
however, if you’re the type of person
that is willing to wait for 20-30
minutes with an appetite of 3 people
and have eyes set on spicy, sweet
and sour dishes then the Mooon Cafe
is a good place to visit for a mild
Mexican feel. Due to the ambiance
and cuisines available, children can
be brought along, it is also a good
place to have a fun time drinking
with peers since it is a very lively
place that is open for conversations.
It is best for people who are curious
of different cultures and cuisines and
want a slight taste of mexican
culture.
