Introduction to linguistics
‣ What is Linguistics?
- Linguistics is the scientific discipline that investigates the origin, evolution and
structure of language, in order to deduce the laws that govern ancient and
modern languages. Its main object of study is grammar, that is, it studies the
evolution and functioning of human language and its various languages.
‣ What is the relation between Linguistics with the Sociolinguistics' study object?
- The relationship between linguistics and sociolinguistics is that both perceive
language as a system of signs. Sociolinguistics studies this set within a social
context and linguistics studies this symbolic system as a fundamental structure
of human language.
‣ How does language or the use of the “meaning of words” become a tool of Social
and Political power?
- Language is a puzzle that relates what we imagine, think and feel in a personal
way, each person has their own way of linking the puzzle in such a way that it
helps their communication to be more or less effective with themselves and in
an environment. Social. This is why language is one of the main characteristics
in the personal reality of each person since it helps them identify and express
their values and beliefs, therefore language is the ability to influence oneself and
others.
‣ Why is it important to carry out Socio - linguistics studies?
- It is important since it helps us understand where language comes from and its
importance, to express values and beliefs in a symbolic way in such a way that
when used correctly it can influence people and obtain favorable results at the
time of interaction. Social. In addition, sociolinguistics tries to explain why
things are said, to whom they are said and when they are said.
What is the dialect?
- Dialectics is the art of persuading, debating and reasoning with different ideas.
In a discourse dialectics is one that presents the main idea supported by different
arguments and ideas, in the same way it is also known as a way of
philosophizing.
Example:
- Santanderean Spanish is the dialect of the Spanish language spoken in the
departments of Santander and Norte de Santander, having its origin in the Guane
culture, its sound is dry and its intonation is strong.
