“Love, Unreflected” 36 -Anonymous There I sit, foolish I may be, staring across at inconceivable beauty Throughout all the lectures, long may they be I find myself lost, in the gleam in her eye Green, her iris, chestnut her hair When my eyes fall on her, all else lies bare I stutter at the slightest hello, but why Why when she even acknowledges me do I feel as I do I ask so desperately does she feel this way, too? But at last my mind can settle, hiding from stress And succumb to a silence, fearful to her reply Will she find me, as I find her? Is it worth it to try? I won’t know, because still I sit, across from her desk Unmoving in body, though my heart, how it flutters The cruel space between us, acts as a buffer Between my actions and intentions, neither fulfilled Throughout all of class, the lesson lie worthless Rendered vestigial by her grace, recursive And as class draws to end, all ambitions killed I sigh, as another day draws to a close A chance to see her, yet she will never know How much my fear inhibits my vision And how sorry I am that I cannot just say What I know that I must, my mind wondered astray Though somehow I know, through an unconscious lens, that any further action on my part can only cause a schism -John Wegrzynek
