La Chispa 2023 - Sandia Preparatory School

that honey, once velvet and silk,
now thick and bitter,
it drips from his teeth.
that stars explode,
shimmer and sheen disappear,
eyes go dull.
dark.
she had been so blinded
she forgot,
he’s not made of honey, petals,
and stars.
heaven is not embedded into his bones.
his eyes are not overflowing with oceans and clouds.
they’re simply blue.
she unknowingly turned his somber expression, pale skin, and
untamed hair,
into poetry.
but when she takes it all away,
he’s just a boy.
