4 Our vision Our vision is of children and youth who are responsible members of society and who actively contribute towards building a peaceful world. Our mandate The Pestalozzi Children’s Foundation is a Swiss non-profit organisation which works worldwide. We seek to provide children and youth with access to holistic high-quality education and strengthen their intercultural competencies. Our values We are committed to human rights and to the rights of the child. We promote equal opportunities in terms of gender, language, religion, health, nationality, ethnicity and social belonging. Our core values are justice, freedom of opinion and self-responsibility. «Learn with your head, heart and hands.» Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi The Children’s Village – heart and centre The unique Pestalozzi Children’s Village in Trogen (Appenzell Outer-Rhodes) is at the heart of the Foundation and of its activities in Switzerland and abroad. Children and youth – our core commitment We are committed to implementing the rights of the child and respect the need for the protection, development and participation of children and youth. We contribute towards ensuring that all children and youth can lead independent, self-determined lives. We actively involve children, youth and their environments in our work and enable them to act as ambassadors for peaceful cohabitation. Our programmes – directly targeted and of high quality We carry out education programmes in Switzerland and in selected regions and countries worldwide. Our programmes are implemented either independently or in cooperation with established, reliable partner organisations who are experienced in running high-quality projects. Our programmes have a longterm perspective and aim to achieve demonstrable and sustainable results.
Our funds – carefully and effectively deployed We procure and deploy our funds in accordance with the ethical guidelines set out for charities. We use our funds in line with the Foundation’s principles in an effective and efficient manner. Our staff – professional and motivated Our staff members are self-motivated and responsible. They fulfil their tasks in accordance with the Foundation’s principles. We value respectful relationships and mutual trust. We maintain efficient management structures which promote participation appropriate to employees’ occupation and position and recognise staff members’ strengths. We offer attractive employment conditions in a safe and healthy working environment and support function-related training and further training. Our employment policy and practice ensures that different cultures and age groups, and both genders are adequately represented in the organisation. Our organisation – appropriate and ever learning We maintain appropriate management structures and processes that enable us to work efficiently and effectively. We guarantee the high quality and effectiveness of our work and regularly evaluate and develop it further. We promote the exchange of knowledge and experience and believe in mutual learning. We adopt a responsible attitude to the use of natural resources. We respect the laws, regulations and accepted standards in Switzerland and in the countries where we work.
