Message du DG
CEO’s message
Arraché brutalement à l’affection des siens,
Yves LAMBELIN repose désormais au cimetière
de SAURAT dans l’Ariège, en France. Ami
Brutally snatched away from his loved ones, Yves LAMBELIN is now resting at
the SAURAT Cemetery in Ariège, France. A friend for some, a patron or father
for others, Yves LAMBELIN has left an indelible imprint on SIFCA. In this painful
period, I would like to associate myself with the staff of SIFCA Group to express,
once again, my heartfelt condolences to the family. My thoughts also go to the
families of Chelliah PANDIAN and Raoul ADEOSSI, who are still reported missing,
as well as to the missing persons at the Toupah and Irobo sites, who left too early
the great SIFCA adventure.
But, we should pursue the path that Yves opened up for us, and which holds
great prospects for the future.
The Statement of income of SIFCA Group for the year 2010 is also generally
satisfactory despite a difficult end of year, due to the post-electoral crisis. The natural
rubber and oilseed sectors are booming. Concerning sugar, the production objectives
for 2010 were not achieved. However, the 2010-2011 campaign was significantly
better and SIFCA will invest in the sector to modernize its UAI and diversify the
sugar industry.
In 2011, the Group is pursuing its strategy of regional growth and diversification
of its activities in West Africa. On the one hand, with the development of its 3
activities with a bright future in Côte d’Ivoire and, on the other, through the
establishment of this winning model in countries of the sub-region. SIFCA is thus
consolidating its agro-industry vocation based on a development in harmony
with private farmers.
Farewell, Builder
Victim of the madness of men in 04 April 2011, Mr. Yves
LAMBELIN, who some affectionately called Mentor, Captain,
Commander or father, embarked on the long journey of no
return. In Abidjan as in Paris, great homage ceremonies were
organized commensurate with the illustrious missing, who is
now resting in peace at the SAURAT cemetery in the Ariège
region, France.
In Abidjan, on 1 st July 2011, it was at the ‘’SOL BENI’’
Sports Complex of ASEC d’Abidjan, that more than 1,500
people paid their last moving respect to Yves LAMBELIN,
in the presence of Mr. Jeannot Ahoussou KOUADIO, Minister
of Justice of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire. In turn, political and
administrative authorities, children from the Ecole préparatoire
militaire de Bingerville (EMPT), business executives, close
collaborators, staff of SIFCA Group, artists, sportsmen,
friends and acquaintances saluted the memory of the business
executive, the man of culture and humanist. The following
day, during the collection of the body from the prestigious hall
of IVOSEP in Treichville, Mr. Coulibaly SANGAFOWA, the
Minister of Agriculture elevated Mr. LAMBELIN, posthumously,
to the rank of Commander in the Ivorian Order of Merit. He
acknowledged in the illustrious departed the immensity of his
works and his contribution to the harmonious development
of our young nation to which he devoted 33 years of his life.
their last respects to Yves Maurice Georges LAMBELIN at
the Père LACHAISE Funeral Parlour, in the presence of Mr.
Jesuits Church in Paris where a mass was organized for the
repose of the soul of the missing, Mr. Denis MAUGENEST,
General Manager of CERAP and main organizer of the
meditation, saluted the memory of ‘’very dear friend’’ and,
talking about the four persons taken from the parlour, he
said that they ‘’sacrificed their own life (…) to save the 7
journalists who were performing their duty in Côte d’Ivoire,
from what would have constituted a kidnapping’’. The burial
ceremony took place on 08 July 2011, strictly limited to the
family, at the SAURAT cemetery in the Ariège region.
Temoignages
Yves,
C’est elle qui t’a toujours accompagné et guidé dans ta vie ;
cacao ;
palmier ;
tout instant ; je me souviendrai toujours comment tu m’as
soutenu dans mon épreuve personnelle, m’invitant à me
Tu avais
domaines technique, financier, social…..
- tes proches, tes enfants…
des rapports parfois tumultueux, tu as toujours su effacer
Tu peux partir tranquille et que la terre te soit légère ;
Ton vieux compagnon.
Tributes
Yves,
Your dramatic and cruel disappearance closes a very thick
book, which is that of your life your African life. It would be
long, presumptuous and incomplete to say everything and
I will limit myself to recalling, what in my view was most
significant in our common journey of more than 35 years.
What will remain engraved in my memory are the essential
traits of your character, which influenced both your
professional and private life:
- your fighting spirit
- your creativity
- your curiosity
- your generosity
Your fighting spirit:
This is what always accompanied and guided you in your
life; you constantly recalled that it was necessary to fight
in order to combat adversity and carry through one’s ideas
and projects. In the worst moments of the Group, it was
through your fighting spirit that projects were successfully
implemented and problems were resolved; examples are :
- the fight to put SIFCA back on its feet after the transfer
of the cocoa sector;
- the recovery of the oil palm sector;
- the permanent battle to save the rubber sector …
This fighting spirit was also expressed in your private life and
you liked to recall that one had to fight at all times; I will
always remember how you supported me in my personal
ordeal, inviting me to fight to the last moment to overcome
adversity. But this fighting spirit would have been less
effective if it had not been associated with your creativity.
Your creativity:
It was expressed throughout your life. It was at the basis of
all the best ideas and orientations in the SIFCA Group:
- cooperative movement in the coffee / cocoa sector,
- restructuring and transformation of the oil palm sector,
- association with Asian groups to better establish the
SIFCA Group,
- establishment in the sub-region …
This creativity was also expressed in your social and
private life:
- social housing for the employees,
- compound projects on the shores of the lagoon to occupy
your leisure hours and those of your family circle,
- sporting clubs, artistic development …
To fuel this creativity, your spirit was endowed with an extreme
curiosity.
Your curiosity:
It was your permanent feature. It was evident in
all your professional reflections. In fact,
you had a lot of respect for developments
in the technical, financial
and social sectors …..
This curiosity was also constantly
expressed in your private life.
You loved art, music, space
research … This, no doubt,
enabled you to fully occupy
the little time your intense
professional activity left
you. It also enabled you to
better know, appreciate
and assist those who
rubbed shoulders with
you, for you had a real
need to help others so as
to better express your
generosity.
Your generosity
Many of those you helped
could testify to this generosity,
notably:
- employees of the SIFCA
Group,
- your domestic staff,
- your close relatives, your children …
I personally benefited from this generosity since,
despite the sometimes stormy relationship, you always
managed to forget our differences of opinion to pen for
me door for new professional and friendly relationship.
Any separation is cruel and deemed unjust, but the heritage
left by your professional and human activities is such that
we shall permanently feel your presence.
You can leave in peace and May Your Soul Rest in Peace;
Your old companion.
“I have just come to know about the unfortunate news. My
heart-felt condolences to the families and also to the SIFCA/
Sania family. I had the privilege of knowing M. Lambelin
and admired him for the good hearted person he was. He was
a very modest man in spite of achieving so much in life.
Having known Raoul closely it is difficult for me to come to
terms with what has happened. He was a wonderful individual,
always smiling and always jovial. Please extend my
condolences to the families of Raoul and Mr. Pandian too.
May the souls of these good people rest in peace”.
“As you and the rest of the Sifca family hold a memorial service
for Yves , we in Liberia would like you to know that he and all
of you are also in our prayers. Words are inadequate to express
my personal frustration at this senseless loss, but we can only
take solace in the knowledge that due to the kind of good and
gentle life he lived, Yves is surely in a better place. I did not
know him for long but in the brief time we were acquainted I
got the sense of a truly gentle man with a good heart for
humanity. I will especially cherish the lunch we had with you
and him at his house and can only pray that all of you will
carry on his good works in business, art and society. May his
Soul rest in perpetual peace“.
your personal loss and the loss of the group of companies.
Kindly convey these sentiments on our behalf to the group
we look forward to seeing you soon after the ratification
“As you can easily imagine, I have been deeply affected
for more than two months by the tragic fate of Yves
LAMBELIN with whom I had the friendship relations you
know. Yves Lambelin was for me a highly cherished friend.
For a long time, he kept away from religion. But I can and
wish to testify to the rigour with which he applied himself
to search for the paths of Wisdom – this is where we were
in communion. The official announcement of his death
encouraged me to organize something to celebrate his
memory within CERAP to which you and Yves devoted
much of your time and energy. I am personally organizing
a mass in Paris with journalists who owe their own life
to Yves and Stéphane Frantz di Rippel. CERAP is also
thinking of organizing eventually a Yves Lambelin Prize to
reward one student each year”.
Plus qu’un simple slogan, ‘’Plan your future, plant rubber
tree’’ (‘’Construisez votre avenir, plantez l’hévéa’’)
à 600 ha d’arbres par an.
More than a mere slogan, ‘’Plan your future, plant rubber
tree’’ eloquently expresses the will of GREL and the
Ghanaian Government to combine their efforts in order to
reduce poverty through a perennial crop. A journey to the
heart of an enterprise in changing times.
History
Introduced in Ghana in the years 1957, under the late President
Kwame NKRUMAH, rubber cultivation started with an area
of between 7,000 and 8,000 ha. In 1968, GREL was
founded during the association with FIRESTONE. During
the1980s, the economic situation in most African countries,
exacerbated by the drastic and unprecedented reduction of
the purchasing power of the populations created an imbalance
in Ghana’s economy. FIRESTONE withdrew and the
State took over the entire management of the plantations until
1989. From this date, GREL was revitalized thanks to the
recovery programme piloted by SIPH. Since then, GREL
is making constant progress thanks to major restructuring
aimed at increasing its productivity and helping it to
comply with international production standards.
The major projects of GREL
Since 2004, GREL initiated for the coming years a major
replanting operation in order to increase the production
of its 13,000 ha plantation. This vast replanting project still
concerns about 5,000 ha of plantations and is aimed at
felling 500 - 600 ha of trees per year. Thus, there are 8
more years of activity during which GREL’s plantation -
40% of which is old – should be significantly revived to
enable it to attain a total production of more than 15,000 T
from 2019. But to achieve that target, GREL needs to innovate
and invest. As is currently the case, following the initiation
of major projects in the plantations and at the factory, the
latter will receive, adding village deliveries, more than
30,000 T from 2017. The objective is to make the rubber
sector more attractive and more competitive. Below is the
list of the major innovations.
nouvelles plantations.
Le Rimflow
Le système ‘’Rain Guard’’
Le magazine interne du groupe SIFCA
Plantations:
• The 1st innovation concerns the change of tools used for
loading rubber. Formerly, GREL was using bamboo tables.
Today, they have been replaced with plastic crates or
‘’Crate evacuation system’’. The advantage of these crates
is that they are easily handled and quite practical. They
help to transport 95% of the rubber to the factory in less
time. With the old method, we could only collect 60% in a
day; with the risk of never finding the rest of the production
the following day. This new system is in place and has been
operating at 100% since April. For, GREL is also interested in
making the work easier: “We travel faster with the same vehicle’’,
explains Mr. CAUCHY, Manager of GREL plantations.
• Then we have the ‘’Rain Guard’’ system. A technique already
used in Asia (expected to be used eventually in all the rubber
sectors of the Group) and which consists in using umbrellas
to protect the cups during the rainy season. To that end,
GREL has already disbursed more than €100,000 (or CFA
65 million) to purchase and install nearly 700,000 umbrellas.
• The third innovation concerns the gas stimulations called
Rimflow and Reactorim. These two systems, still at a trial
stage but already experimented in Côte d’Ivoire, consist in
conditioning the tree to produce more. If Reactorim can
be used for three years, Rimflow is much more difficult to
use and requires renewal of the material every year. The
gas simulation helps to extend the period of flow of the
latex and consequently helps to increase production by about
Crate evacuation system
30%. Tests have been performed to validate the production
gains, assess the reaction of the tree over time and finally
evaluate the financial interest.
• The fourth innovation is the planting of shooted material:
i.e. instead of cutting back the plant just before planting
it, you cut it back two or three months earlier so that it has
time to start growing in the bag before planting it.
• The fifth innovation concerns the division offices. Since
the mid-2010, the abandoned division offices have been
renovated and equipped with solar panels and a PC. At the
end of 2011, 7 division offices will be operational, leaving only
one division to be equipped with a new structure.
This operation on reactivation of the division offices started
in the early 1990s, with the centralization of the management
of the Abura central agricultural office (baca). It contributes
efficiently to the smooth development of the plantations.
In 2007, following the takeover of the planting at Subri (120
km from Abura), the experience of a division head assigned
to this division even showed the advantages of having an
official close to the field: monitoring of the performance
of the plantation on daily basis, proximity with the labour,
management of the village. On the basis of this observation,
it was decided to generalize this organization to all the
plantations.
• Finally, GREL will soon start the NUCLEUS project. This
is a development project (in the same spirit as what is practised
in Côte d’Ivoire by SAPH) based on the creation of village
plantations around new plantations.
la qualité des matières premières et à réduire les odeurs ;
caoutchouc humide ;
la productivité, le rendement et le confort des employés ;
There have also been several innovations at the
factory:
A radical upheaval is currently taking place the GREL
factory in preparation for future campaigns. It involves
large-scale investments. The only rubber processing factory
in Ghana, established at Apimanim, about 30 kilometres
from Takoradi, with a staff of 120 employees, including
4 women, is being modernized. Since March 2011, the
technicians have been busy working day and night to
install a high-capacity and efficient machine capable of
improving, qualitatively and quantitatively, the production
capacity from the current 3 T/h to 5 T/h in 2013-2014 and
eventually a nominal capacity of 10 T/h by 2018. High on
the agenda of these investments are:
Les deux ponts bascules
- The installation of a pre-processing plant for extracting
the serum from the rubber tree in order to guarantee the
quality of the product.
- The extension of the storage capacity from 1,000 to
3,000 T. For an investment of € 80,000 (or CFAF 52
million) in 2010 and € 96,000 (or CFAF 62 million) in
2011, the extension is aimed at improving the quality of
the raw materials and reducing odors;
- The construction of an additional weighing bridge,
which will bring to 2 the number of weighing bridges
receiving each day 25 trucks filled with wet rubber;
- The institution within the factory of a standard, the NR
Standard in order to guarantee the safety, quality, cleanliness,
productivity, output and comfort of the employees;
- And finally, the introduction of a solar weighing system
to ensure constant operations.
According to Mr. Franck FAMIYEH, Production Manager:
“GREL will make investments in the coming years to enable
the Ghanaian rubber production sector to make the best
out of the increasing demand on the highly-competitive
world market”, and for the benefit of the farmers.
New processing method
Indeed, with the acquisition of new tools, the new method
of processing rubber will now consist in first of all a pretreatment
of the product once off-loaded from the trucks.
The objective is to improve the quality by increasing the Plasticity
Retention Index (Pri), a property of the rubber tree. The
pre-treatment consists in passing the product through a
machine called Jumbo Slab cutter, to de-agglomerate it.
Stakeholders of the rubber sector in Ghana
The stakeholders are the farmers and Village Growers’
Associations (ROAA), the Agricultural Development Bank
and the National Investment Bank (credit providers and
financial operators). GREL is the technical operator and the
Ministry of Food and Agriculture the responsible ministry.
AFD and KFW, the French and German development
agencies, grant credits to the Ghana Government for the
rubber plantation project. The last phase of this programme
(Phase IV, planting 2010 - 2012) is clearly an innovation as
it reduces considerably the involvement of the Government
and institutes a private/private funding scheme.
A l’instar
dénommée Rubber Outgrowers and Agents Association
(ROAA).
un transfert de technologie et un revenu durable ;
conditions de vie ;
- De contribuer au développement socio-économique
national.
GREL and private farmers
By providing more than 40% of the rubber processed by
GREL, private farmers are at the centre of the development of
rubber production in Ghana. Today, more than 5,600 farmers
are cultivating an estimated area of more than 21,100 ha,
including 4,500 ha in production. Like other farmers’
organizations across the world, Ghanaian growers are
grouped within an association called Rubber Outgrowers and
Agents Association (ROAA). The mission of this structure,
established in 1995 by the Government of Ghana, with
the support of the AFD, IDA and the World Bank, is to:
- offer private farmers quality services, technology
transfer and sustainable development;
- enable farmers to enjoy better living conditions;
- contribute to national socio-economic development.
In 2010, private farmers produced 8,760 T of wet rubber
and 5,124 T of dry rubber (or 58.5%). In 2012, they hope
to produce 7,000 T of dry rubber. The Rubber Farmers Unit
of GREL, specifically in charge of the creation of village
plantations, the village plantations programme, is operating
on two main schemes, namely:
1- Assisted farmers: these are individual small farmers who
are assisted in the development of a maximum of 4 ha rubber
plantations through a credit facility (5,433 farmers).
2- Self-financing farmers: these are individual farmers who
wish to develop their own plantation by financing it on their
equity resources, without credit facility. For this category
of farmers, there is no limit to the area cultivated but the
initial demand is a minimum of 9 ha (244 farmers).
Supervision and training in tapping
In Ghana, the supervision of rubber farmers is entirely the
responsibility of GREL. Here, in the absence of state agency,
GREL provides technical assistance to small farmers:
supply of plants, planting, technical operations, etc. It is
therefore a contractual relationship between GREL, AFD,
banks and small farmers. Each year, to positively and
efficiently meet the demands of small farmers, GREL
organizes training in tapping for new supervisors and a
retraining for the old ones. The retraining lasts for 1 week
while the new tappers are trained for 6 weeks at the end
of which the most deserving are recruited and sent to the
sites. In partnership with the village plantations programme,
GREL also trains young nursery farmers in new nursery
maintenance technologies.
Baptisée ‘’Secretariat of the Association of Chiefs
Health Centre
Built on an area of about 300 m² and opened in the
1970s, the GREL health centre is placed under the
direction of Dr Paul KWESI. Its particularity is the fact
that this health centre limits its services to emergency
care, in accordance with Ghanaian law. Child birth
and surgery cases are referred to the big hospitals.
According to the doctor, recurrent disease cases are
associated with fever, (60%), diarrhoea (15%), itching
(5%) and worms (3%).
Impact on local communities
We can actually say that sustainable development is at the
centre of the priorities of GREL. At Abura, GREL has offered
a ‘’House of Traditional Chiefs ’’ to communities living in
the outskirts of its site (84 in all), which is contributing
effectively to the efficient functioning of its secretariat (staff
monthly pay) and fully subsidized its cultural activities.
Called ‘’Secretariat of the Association of Chiefs on Whose
Lands GREL Operates (ACLANGO)’’, this house serves as
permanent secretariat and hosts periodic meetings of the
partners and enables each party to enrich itself with their
mutual expertise. In addition to health infrastructure to
provide critical care, GREL has provided the neighbouring
communities with 9 schools, 1 cultural centre and 14
latrines. There are many examples that perfectly illustrate
GREL’s commitment to improve the living conditions of the
communities and promote good neighbourly relations with
all its partners.
assez rentable ; alors j’ai décidé d’essayer.
‘’ Rubber culture is better’
Married and father of 5 children, Mr. Stephen Yaya, has
been a rubber grower since 2002. In this small interview,
the young farmer tells of his first contact with rubber and
the benefits he derives from it.
How did you discover rubber?
One day, when visiting a friend, I heard about rubber.
People were saying that it was quite a profitable plant; I
therefore decided to give it a try. At the beginning, those
who did not know the value of this plant used to mock at
me and thought I was mad. But, in practice, I effectively
realized that what they said about this plant was true. In
fact, compared to other crops, I find rubber highly profitable.
Today, I have extended my plantation and I now have 4 ha.
In concrete terms, what has rubber offered you?
Rubber has offered me a lot. Because, it gives me interesting
income, which was not the case in the past, and with this
money, I maintain my family and I can also educate my
children. Four of my five children are lucky to go to school.
The eldest did not have this opportunity because I had not
discovered rubber when he was of school-going age. Perhaps
if I had discovered rubber earlier, he would be one of the
great men of this country.
Are you therefore happy that you discovered rubber?
Yes, 100% happy! If the law would allow me, I would have
even planted more. In fact, last month (Editor’s Note: June),
I produced 0.89 T; this month (Editor’s Note: July), I have
produced 1.05 T. Yet in Ghana, 1 ton sells for Ghc 2,300
(or more than CFA F 700,000). Can you imagine what I
have made as earnings? In any case, I will do all I can to
ensure that all my children invest in rubber.
SIFCA Group is gaining ground in Liberia
Established in Liberia since 2008, the SIFCA Group
undertook in early 2011 two major operations in the
rubber and oil palm sectors. It was the signing of
the concession agreement for rehabilitation and
development of rubber and oil palm plantations in
Maryland County in the south-eastern region of Liberia.
The objective of these operations is to revitalize the
agro-industrial sector in Liberia and also contribute
to the reduction of poverty.
- In the natural rubber sector, on 21 January 2011,
the Liberian Government and Cavalla Rubber
Corporation (CRC), subsidiary of the SIFCA Group
(through SIPH), signed a concession agreement
amounting to US$ 74 million, for rehabilitation and
development of rubber cultivation. The concession
concerns 30,000 hectares of plantations, of which
4,000 ha are already planted, and 5,000 additional
hectares for developing village plantations. The
concession agreement covers a period of 50
years renewable. The company CRC, in addition
to the construction of a rubber processing factory,
will invest more than US$ 35 million for the next
ten years.
- In the oil palm sector, on 4 March 2011, the
Liberian Government and Maryland Oil Palm
Plantation, a subsidiary of SIFCA, signed a concession
agreement amounting to US$ 64 million for the
rehabilitation and development of oil palm
cultivation. The concession will comprise a processing
factory and the plantation stretching over 8,800
ha. The company will invest US$ 58 million to
rehabilitate the plantations and assist the village
farmers to create 6,400 ha of plantations. The
concession agreement covers a period of 25
years renewable.
At the social level, CRC and MOPP pledge to promote
local employment and improve the quality of life of
Liberians (access to education and healthcare...) in the
ZOO of Abidjan
Staff rewarded by SIFCA
and SAPH
Workers of the Abidjan Zoo were rewarded on 20 May
2011 for their contribution to the protection and survival of
wildlife in this symbolic site during the pre-electoral crisis
in Côte d’Ivoire. The animals in the Abidjan Zoo owe their
survival to the workers of this establishment. They
voluntarily took the decision to face the dangers to ensure
the physical safety and feeding of animals in the Zoo. They
risked their lives, and without any support, offered care
and food to these animals with their own resources and stayed
with them throughout the crisis. To reward them for this
act of bravery, the Sustainable Development Department
of SIFCA and SAPH offered all the workers tee-shirts, caps,
bags of rice and oil. The animals rescued included three
chimpanzees, a donation from the SIFCA Group, partner
of Abidjan Zoo.
SIFCA supports journalists
Supporting the press as a priority is now a tradition at
SIFCA. On the occasion of the Moslem fasting period, the
Group did not fail to observe the rule. SIFCA donated a
ton of sugar a ton of oil to journalists of Côte d’Ivoire
(irrespective of their political affiliation) to enable them to
survive in these difficult times of penitence and piety.
The gesture was commended by all the journalists who
expressed the wish that this partnership be perpetuated.
The TRACKING solution
at your service
How can you reduce risks in real time, improve the safety
and optimize costs related to vehicles? These are the
advantages of the new offer – highly prized at the moment -
by Comafrique Technologie. It is called Tracking or
geolocation.
Tracking or geolocation, a leading-edge technology, is the
grouping of several technologies, notably GPS tools
(positioning by satellite); GSM (mobile telephone) and the
geographical information system (mapping). These three
elements constitute a complete range of solutions intended
for the efficient management of a pool of vehicles. It helps
to track, everywhere in the world, the activity of a vehicle
or any mobile or fixed object.
How does the TRACKING solution work?
Once installed in a vehicle, the Securysat Fleet box
captures all the information, which it transmits in real time
via the GPRS network on highly secured servers. The box
can be installed on any type of vehicle: bus, truck, cars,
etc. Thanks to this module, it is now possible to locate,
monitor a vehicle and receive a number of data on the
driver and/or his passengers (depending on the options
taken). Users can access the application from any
computer equipped with an Internet connection, by
simply entering the security code.
Its advantages
The SecurysatFleet system efficiently fights against the
stealing of vehicles and enables the owners to serenely
enjoy the pleasure of driving. Approved and recommended
by insurance companies, the tracking solution
enables you to know at any time where the vehicle is and,
in case of theft, immobilize it, keep it away from criminals
to increase the chances of finding it intact.
D’OR ont changé.
4 QUESTIONS A…..
‘’La quantité et la qualité de nos
le changement des étiquettes’’
Mme SOUMAHORO
enfants.
‘’The quantity and quality of our products
remain unchanged, despite the change of labels’’
4 QUESTIONS TO…
Mme SOUMAHORO
SANIA Cie Marketing Manager
Marketing Manager since June 1, 2010, Ms. Kadidiatou
SOUMAHORO gives us the reasons that motivated the
change of labels and logos of SANIA products.
- Madam, for some time now, all the labels of SANIA products
have changed. What is the objective of this change?
It should be noted that these changes affect 2 of our main oil
trade marks. Our concern is to rejuvenate and improve the image
of our trade marks. We should also know that we have in our
portfolio a fifty-year old trade mark, which should continue to
recruit and seduce the youngest consumers. Our brand of
refrigerated margarine St AVE will also be changed very soon.
- Do these changes have an impact on the quantity and
quality of oil?
Only the visual identities, i.e. the logos, labels and signatures
of DINOR and PALME D’OR brands have changed. The
quantity and quality of our products remain unchanged.
- Why precisely do you need new logos? Why did you choose
the housewife instead of the little girl, and the symbolic
‘’ST AVE’’ in replacement of the cow in the meadow?
As I said earlier, a brand must be renewed and evolve in
time. You will notice that the changes of logos or visual
identity of brands are quite frequent in the universe of great
consumption. For, a brand must be able to adapt to the
trend of its target and new challenges that appear (in the
economic, health sectors etc.), of course while keeping its
acquired heritage. Concerning DINOR, after so many
years, the little girl has grown and is replaced by a young
lady, who has already learnt how to promote the welfare
of her family. And in the case of St AVE, the logo and the
packaging have also evolved. However, we kept the famous
cow in the meadow. The new packaging should be on the
market at the end of January 2011.
-What else can you say on the DELICIA brand, which has
just arrived on the market? Why two brands of margarine?
What is its position in relation to ST AVE?
In early July, we launched the ideal margarine for the daily
feeding of children. It provides the essential nutrient for the
sound physical and intellectual development of our children.
In launching a new brand on the margarine market, we wanted
to expand our portfolio. In addition, ST AVE and DELICIA
are not on the same segment and do not have the same
position on the market. In fact, ST AVE is a refrigerated
margarine intended for the entire family whereas DELICIA
is a non-refrigerated margarine more adapted for children.
