juillet 2011.
L'exposition ouvre le jeudi 9 juin de 18 à 20 heures, et sera visible jusqu'au 2 juillet 2011.
Yvon Lambert est heureux d’annoncer la 3eme exposition personnelle de Spencer Finch à la galerie du 9 juin au 2
juillet 2011.
Utilisant principalement comme support la lumière, le travail de Spencer Finch repose sur la perception et
l’expérience du temps. Il recherche un moment ineffable, où se superposent le passé et le présent, la mémoire et la
sensation de l’instant, le désir personnel confronté à l’histoire.
Après avoir visité des lieux fortement marqués par l’histoire tels que les grottes de Lascaux, Spencer Finch
s’imprègne pour ce nouveau projet de la pièce de William Shakespeare, Hamlet. Dans une installation de LED, il
offre aux spectateurs une nuit de lucioles, faisant jouer à ses lumières le rôle des différents personnages, leurs
intensités et mouvements représentant leurs personnalités et déplacements. Spencer Finch crée ainsi atmosphère
exaltant mystère et fantastique. Un espace rêvé mêlant obscurité et lumière, inquiétude et ravissement. Une dualité
particulièrement inspirée de l’Acte III d’Hamlet ou la tension est à son comble. L’acte ou lumière se fait sur la
vraie nature des personnages, révélant son héros dans le sublime de sa méditation existentielle (Etre ou ne pas
être?) mais aussi dans la cruauté de sa condition humaine.
Explorant par la lumière les tourments du coeur et de l’âme, Spencer Finch revisite un certain romantisme et invite
le spectateur à la réflexion et à l’introspection.
Spencer Finch est né à New Haven dans le Connecticut en 1962 ; il vit et travaille à Brooklyn.
En 2007, ses œuvres ont fait l’objet d’une rétrospective au MASS MoCA à North Adams dans le Massachussetts
aux Etats-Unis.
Il est actuellement expose à la Triennale de Folkestone au Royaume Uni et sera également exposé en 2011 à
l’Emily Dickinson Museum à Amherst dans le Massachussetts, à l’Indianapolis Museum en Indiana ainsi qu’au
Art Institute of Chicago Museum en Illinois.

Yvon Lambert is pleased to present Spencer Finch’s 3rd exhibition at the gallery. The show will open June 9th,
2011 and will be on view until July 2nd, 2011.
The exhibition opens on Thursday, June 9 from 6-8pm and will be on view until July 2, 2011.
Using light as his medium, Spencer Finch’s works deal with notions of perception and the experience of time. He
keeps pursuing an ineffable moment where past and present, memory and instant meet; personal desire and world
history collide.
After visiting loaded, historic places such as the cave of Lascaux, this new project relates to William Shakespeare
play, Hamlet. Through an LED installation, Spencer Finch offers a sparkling fireflies night, each light playing a
different character part, their intensity and movement representing each personality and move. Spencer Finch
creates an atmosphere exalting mystery and fantasy - a dream place combining darkness and light, angst and
delight. The arisen dichotomy is inspired by the 3 rd act of Hamlet where the tension reaches its peak – the act
shedding the light on the characters’ real nature, revealing its hero in the sublime of his existential contemplation
(To be or not to be?) but also in the uttermost cruelty of his human condition.
Exploring through light the spiritual and emotional conflicts of each individual, Spencer Finch embraces a certain
idea of romanticism and invites the audience to reflexion and introspection.
Spencer Finch is born in New Haven in Connecticut in 1962; he lives and works in Brooklyn.

Spencer Finch has a current exhibition at the Folkestone Triennal in the United Kingdom and his next 2011
