Quite rare to have the 4 parts together in very good paper-condition
(exceptionnal for newspaper quality). It proves once more
the growing interest of the English for ‘the playground of Europe’
(Leslie Stephen) & the increasing number of English travellers
to make ‘Le grand tour’, (thats how tourism started) travelling
mainly from Paris to Geneva, Chamonix, Grand St-Bernard,
Martigny and so on. References in this story are made to Mr.
Bakewell, Dr. Barry & Mr. Auldjo. The woodcut illustrations
show a.o. ‘the sea of Ice , Mont-Blanc, Ascending Mont-Blanc
near Mulets Rocks, Sliding down the Mont-Blanc (after Auldjo,
perhabs Browne in his ‘Ten scenes of the last ascent of Mont-
Blanc’ of 1853 was inspired by this Newspaper illustration). A

Kämpfe der Weltgeschichte (Weltkrieg 1914-18) mitzuerleben
und als Arzt der leidenden Menschheit zu helfen. Erschütternde
Geschichten ‘keinem zulieb und keinem zu Trotz, der Wahrheit
zur Ehr, berichtet er über schwerste Kämpfe der Söhne Südtirols
aus Liebe für ihr Fleckchen Erde auf gottverlassenen Dolomitenblöcken...
(und) spührt hohe Achtung vor den Bewohnern kleiner
enger Alphüttchen im Bergland von Tirol. Wichtig historisches
Bildmaterial. Vor allem sind die Abb. für die Kriegsmedizin
und Kriegsfotografie wichtig, sie sind grausame und bewegende
Bilder dieses Krieges. Der Autor war später Chirurg in der Klinik
von Clarens und der Spitäler von Vevey und Montreux.

bookplate ‘Oscar V. Viney’, original green cloth, richly
gilt spine, covers decorated with blindstamped frame, gilt
alpine scene (deer scene) in the center of the upper plate,
slight unsignificant wear on top and bottom of spine and
