the main event in the past year has been the creation of a new website for the
Association (www.aiep-iaps.org) which became operative in August 2008. Many
thanks to Theo de Bruyn for undertaking the organisation of this task. I am sure you
will all agree that it is a wonderful (and aesthetically delightful) addition to the life
of the Association. We are now working on a listserv so that we can more easily
contact all members by email.
The executive committee met in Bologna for the annual meeting of the Association
(9 th May 2009). This meeting was slightly shorter than the first meeting of the new
committee, although it still lasted a full day! We were delighted to record the
appointment of two new National Correspondents (Professor Patricia Ciner in
Argentina and Professor Hendrik Stander in South Africa) and the acceptance of 60
new members. However, we continue to be aware that we still need representatives
in areas where we have members but no National Correspondent, most especially
Brazil, Bulgaria, China, Congo, India, Korea, Mexico and Russia, and would
welcome any help in filling these posts.
A General Assembly of the Association has been organised to take place during the
meeting of the “Colloquium Origenianum Decimum” in Cracow this summer. It will
be held at 6 pm on Wednesday the 2nd of September and all delegates of this
conference, who are members of the Association, are warmly invited to attend.
Further details will be sent to everyone who has enrolled for the conference. I would
also be glad to hear from any presidents of national or international patristic
societies who will be attending and would like to perhaps take five minutes to inform
the meeting of their activities. Thinking ahead to the 50th anniversary of the
Association in 2015 we also discussed the possibility of an international conference
organised by the Association, perhaps to be held in 2012, so that the proceedings
could be published for the anniversary. I would welcome any suggestions you might
have both for the venue and the theme of this conference.
A publicity flyer, describing the aims and purpose of the Association, as well as
giving the names and contact details of the executive committee and National
Correspondents will soon be posted on the website. I would be very grateful if you
could print this out and distribute it whenever appropriate. I will be writing to
organisers of major conferences to arrange for it to given to delegates, but perhaps
you could take it to national meetings and conferences, or give it to colleagues and
research students who might be interested in joining the Association. I am always
happy to hear from members with any comments or suggestions you might have
concerning the work of the Association. Please do not hesitate to get in touch.
