Mot du premier ministreC’est avec plaisir que je salue toutes les personnes que réunit le Gala50 e anniversaire du Programme de Bourses d’Études CIBPA. Je salueégalement cette solidarité remarquable des membres de la communautéitalienne qui ont, au cours des années, contribué à la poursuite dela mission du programme. Avec cet élan que vous leur avez donné,nombre d’étudiants sont allés au bout de leurs idées et de leur formationuniversitaire. Message du Président de la CIBPAIl y a cinquante ans, en s’inspirant de l’expérience de leursvies, réalisant l’importance de l’éducation, les Pionniers dela CIBPA instituèrent le Fonds des bienfaiteurs de la CIBPAInc., donnant ainsi naissance auprogramme des Bourses.Aujourd’hui, dans le respect del’esprit novateur qui a toujourscaractérisé chaque initiative dela CIBPA, en célébrant le 50 eanniversaire, nous lançons lacréation d’un Fonds de dotationavec le seul objectif d’assurer lacontinuité du programme debourses d’étude de la CIBPA pourles générations de demain.Pour en arriver à autant, cesdernières année s nous avonstravaillé à la mise à jour du contenu du statut des Fondsdes bienfaiteurs de la CIBPA Inc. pour mieux répondre auxbesoins d’aujourd’hui. Grâce à la générosité de Me Rita Lc deSantis, du 16 août 2010, une nouvelle version est en vigueur.Un premier changement concerne le nom des Fonds desbienfaiteurs de la CIBPA Inc., changé à Fondation CIBPA Inc.(CIBPA Foundation inc, en anglais; et Fondazione CIBPA inc.,en italien), un nom certainement plus facile à communiqueret à retenir.Other changes reflect various key recommendations for changesand clarifications originating from the generous contributionsand constructive analysis of the existing program formulatedtrough the years by various donors, corporate sponsors, CIBPAmembers and Board Members.These changes, without changing the philanthropic spirit andcharitable content of the original bylaws, will allow for the firsttime to award scholarships to students who, though showingexcellent academic results, were being excluded because of theeconomic criteria.Another change is the opening to new members. Whileonly members of the CIBPA would automatically becomemembers of the CIBPA Benefactors’ Fund Inc., CIBPAFoundation Inc. will now opens the door and allows for otherorganization’ membership and to have their representativeselected on its Board.We firmly believe that these changes, while complying withthe spirit of the founding fathers of the program, twill openthe door to those inside and outside the CIBPA that have atheart the program, and want to contribute to the projectionof the CIBPA Foundation Inc. to the desired level of success.Qualcuno si chiederà se abbiamo ancora bisogno dipromuovere una tale iniziativa, una tale causa.La sfida generazionale alla quale siamo confrontati è lo spreco:dall’energia, all’ambiente; dalle ingiustizie sociali, alla fame nelmondo, alle guerre, non ultima la trasformazione della scuolain semplice bene di consumo, quindi, alla pari di tutti gli altribeni di consumo, essa stessa soggetta allo spreco.Da questo spreco nasce il fenomeno dell’abbandono scolastico,purtroppo ben presente anche nella nostra comunità, fenomenoche bisogna assolutamente combattere, soprattutto spronandoi nostri giovani allo studio, vero motore e ragion d’essere delsuccesso individuale e collettivo di ogni società che si rispetti.Tutti sappiamo che la riuscita scolastica costituisce un’ottimabase per il successo a cui si aspira nella vita. Message du Président d’honneur du Gala du 50 e anniversaireQuand on m’a offert la présidence d’honneur du 50 e anniversaire duprogramme de bourses d’études de la CIBPA, j’ai accepté avec émotionparce que je suis profondément convaincu que l’éducation est un élémentindispensable dans la vie de chaque individu. Elle peut cependant exigerun grand effort économique de la part des familles, ce qui a souvent pourrésultat de pénaliser les étudiants les plus aptes, mais qui ne peuvent passe permettre le coût des études.Grâce à cette merveilleuse initiative, qui a permis à la Caisse PopulaireCanadienne Italienne de recueillir, au fil des ans, plus de 500 000 $,nous pouvons soutenir nos jeunes dans l’aboutissement de leur rêveprofessionnel. Nous voulons leur montrer qu’ils ne sont pas seuls, maisque la communauté les soutient et s’implique afin que leurs talents soientvalorisés. Message du Président du programme des bourses et du Comité organisateur du GalaCe soir nous célébrons avec grande émotion le 50 eanniversaire d’un des plus importants programmes debourses d’études privés au Canada. Le programme a étéfondé le 13 mai 1958 et le comitéde direction était présidé par MeRaphaël Esposito et composéde Dr. Antonio Binda, AntonioCapobianco, Patsy Colangelo,Alfredo Gagliardi, Jos. A. Garofalo,Dominic Padulo, Dr. VictorPanaccio, Louis Tondi et MartinTucci. Lors d’une assembléegénérale tenue en août 1959,Alfredo Gagliardi a obtenu leconsentement de procéder avec unFonds en fidéicommis pour veniren aide aux étudiants et étudiantesméritants et dans le besoin.C’est en 1961 que les premièresbourses d’études furent attribuées à quatre jeunesétudiants. En 1986, le Fonds en fidéicommis futtransformé en une fondation charitable afin d’assurer lapermanence de cette initiative.Aujourd’hui, nous pouvons affirmer avec beaucoupde fierté que les deux millions huit cents milles dollarsrecueillis par les gens d’affaires qui se sont donnés la relèvedans le comité des bourses d’études ont contribué a laformation et à l’intégration, dans la société canadienne,de plus de 1750 jeunes. C’est un devoir de ma part, deremercier tous ceux et celles qui dans les derniers 50ans ont contribué à la réussite du programme. Au delàde ceux déjà nommés, j’aimerai citer les noms de DonSofolio, Vincent Civitella, Giuseppe Di Battista, SenatorPietro Rizzuto, Raymond Massi, Me Rita De Santis, RoccoCaruso, Giovanni Chieffallo et tous les très généreuxdonateurs et bénévoles.Quest’anno é un onore per me e per la CIBPA avere, inqualitá di presidente d’onore del nostro gala, il signorMariano De Carolis, direttore generale della CassaPopolare Canadese Italiana. Il signor De Carolis hasempre creduto, come in passato lo ha creduto il suopredecessore alla direzione della Cassa, il signor GiuseppeDi Battista, nell’educazione dei nostri giovani. Insiemealla validissima Michelina Lavoratore, ai direttori dellesuccursali e agli impiegati, Mariano De Carolis é uno degliartefici del successo del programma di borse di studio dellaCIBPA. Il successo di questo programma é misurato anchedal numero, sempre maggiore, di domande depositate daparte degli studenti.Quest’anno abbiamo ricevuto oltre 175 domande e questodimostra la notorietà crescente del programma. Siamo,inoltre, lieti di annunciare che oltre alle usuali borsedi studio attribuite sulla base dei risultati scolastici edel reddito, saranno attribuite 15 borse che premianoesclusivamente l’eccellenza negli studi.Dopo sei anni alla presidenza del programma é giuntoil momento di fare spazio ai giovani ed é per questo chepasso lo scettro a Mike Goriani, un uomo con ottimequalità dirigenziali. Even anancient Greek, Epictetus, said: “Only the educated are free ”. And as aperson, as a human being passionate about life, I cherish my freedom.Education is a great leveling field, we all know we are not born equal,but education can provide equal opportunity.C’est la dixième année que je fais partie de la campagne de financementpour les bourses d’études de la CIBPA et j’en suis fière. Nous célébrons la51e remise de bourses d’études par la CIBPA : une tradition qui a vu le jouren 1961. Merci à tous ceux et celles qui nous ont appuyés en répondantavec générosité à nos demandes de dons depuis 1961.I remember the number of people who were there for me: Dorothy Brady,Albert Joannette, Michael Furlong, etc, etc. Very often, it is not the peoplethat assisted us that we assist in return. Our tribute to those who lent us ahelping hand is to go on and assist others. Winston Churchill was a wiseman. Winston Churchill said: “You make a living with what you get,but you make a life with what you give.” I encourage all the recipientsof this year’s bursaries and scholarships to remember that as they receivetoday, they should give tomorrow.Your best investment in an RRSP is in education. Message du Président du Comité de sélection des boursesDepuis 50 ans les bourses d’études de la CIBPA sont octroyées selon descritères de sélection favorisant autant le besoin financier que l’excellenceacadémique. En plus des récipiendaires traditionnels, cette année nousavons sélectionné quelques étudiants qui se font remarquer par desrésultats académiques exceptionnels.Le choix des récipiendaires est fait par un comité de sélection, composéde membres et amis de la CIBPA, qui révise les demandes de bourses.Nous avons reçu 175 demandes cette année. Chaque demande a étéévalue par 2 membres du comité selon une grille de critères de sélectionet les résultats vérifiés par un tiers.This year we received a record number of applications. We werefortunate to have a selection committee of 25 volunteers to help withthe selection process. These volunteers represent a cross-section of ourcommunity; professionals and business people from many walks oflife, young and old, emeritus members and executives of the CIBPA.Each year as they meticulously review each application, the membersof the selection committee are invariably impressed by the quality of thecandidates who apply.Vorrei ringraziare tutti quelli che hanno participato in comitato diselezione per aver generosamente dedicato loro tempo a questa importanteattivita. Message from the President of the National Federation of CIBPAsThe CIBPA has been a catalyst for business professionalssince the creation of the first chapter inMontreal in 1949. Today we are celebrating 50 yearsof CIBPA excellence dedicatedto education In Montreal. Congratulationsto the organizers ofthis memorable event.The CIBPA has earned an enviablereputation as the premiernon-profit association that bestpromotes and cultivates thebusiness and professional interestsof Canadian Italians. We have assumed theresponsibility because we understand how importantit is to share our knowledge and experiencewith others who want to succeed as we do.I would like to take this opportunity to thankGiovanni Chieffallo and the current Board of CIBPAMontreal for what will be an outstanding eveningand a job well done. It is a privilege to be part of anorganization that is the recognized business voiceof the Canadian Italian business community. All ofwhich would not be possible without the passion,vision and integrity as members and leaders of theCIBPA chapters and their board of directors.The Italian community has always viewed educationas the road map to a better life and career in Canada.The CIBPA took on this challenge by providingbursaries and scholarships to Canadian Italianstudents so they could get the head start required toprosper as Canadians.The National Federation of CIBPAs has 12 registeredchapters throughout Canada. I am pleased tosay that the National Federation of CIBPAs hasdistributed over $4 million to students of Italianheritage or students in Italian studies. At least 3.5million has been distributed from Montreal, a veryhigh standard for all other Chapters to aspire too.You make us so proud!Many of our recipients receive Provincial StudentAssistance. With the cost of a university and collegeeducation constantly increasing, we are pleased tobe able to help. I have had the privilege of readingletters from past recipients and can assure you thatwe are making a difference.When I look back at the history of Italian Canadiansand the CIBPA in particular, I see a common themeof family values, good citizenship and educationbeing the corner stone of our success as Canadians.As well, we should be very proud of all the othercommunity causes that CIBPA chapters quietlycontribute in all of our communities.
