Advantages DAB has to offer
DAB digital radio is a new way of broadcasting
radio via a network of terrestrial transmitters. It
provides listeners with more choice, better
sound quality, easy to use and advanced
features like Time Shift radio.
More Choice
DAB uses data compression to deliver more
content with one DAB channel. Depending on
the country or region where the DAB add-on
unit is used, the user can select between
different Ensembles with different Services. In
many cases this is more than double what is
available on conventional FM/AM radio. In
many countries there are several Service
Stations that only exist as DAB radio and are
not available on FM/AM band.
Less Noise
DAB digital radio delivers improved sound
quality. The technology allows the receiver to
correct improper data that are caused by weak
signal conditions. This reduces the hiss, crackle
and fades all too familiar on conventional
FM/AM radio.
Easy to use
With DAB digital radio, the user doesn't need
to remember frequencies because the Services
are selected by station name.
Time Shift Radio
With the Time Shift function, it is possible to
rewind radio broadcasts when the radio has
been switched on. If you missed the start of
your favourite song, you can just go back to
the beginning of the song via Time Shift. This
function is very useful in case you want to
listen again to the news or some important
traffic announcements.
Depending on the broadcasted data rate, it
will be possible to rewind and listen to radio
that was broadcasted up to 56 minutes ago (in
case the data rate of the broadcast was below
64 kBit/s), provided that the radio has been
switched on and the Time Shift function has
been activated.

radio operates via a series of terrestrial
