It is essential that we talk about things that gather us together these days. The last several years
of human history have clearly shown that the vision of a joint world that we share is an illusion
of the global market or a utopian dream rather than a reality in which people live.
However, have fragmentation and separation also revealed new meeting grounds? What unites
people today? Where do they share their mutual visions of the world?
In this historic year for Plovdiv when the city holds the title European Capital of Culture, the
slogan of NIGHT/Plovdiv 2019 is “Common Ground”. Thus we are sending a message and aim to
remember old, or find new places and ideas which gather us together.
The common ground of the NIGHT is Plovdiv and the common ground of Plovdiv is the NIGHT.
That is why we decided to ask all Plovdivians and visitors of the city something very important:
WHAT PLOVDIV DO I WANT TO LIVE IN OR VISIT IN 20 YEARS? Everyone can write their wish or
dream of the city at the Historical Museum in Plovdiv and at specially designated places. After
the NIGHT, all wishes will be donated to the Historical Museum in Plovdiv so that they can
remain as a kind of time capsule carrying the atmosphere and hopes of this so important year
for Plovdiv.
