Appendix 3<br />
Species Listed as Invasive Species<br />
1. The species are listed alphabetically by scientific name for each of the following groupings:<br />
3.1 Mammals<br />
3.2 Birds<br />
3.3 Reptiles<br />
3.4 Amphibians<br />
3.5 Fishes (Fresh-Water)<br />
3.6 Fishes (Marine) and Other Marine Species<br />
3.7 Invertebrates (Fresh-water)<br />
3.7 Invertebrates (Terrestrial)<br />
3.9 Plants<br />
3.10 Microbes<br />
2. The following categories of invasive species are provided for in terms of the Regulations:<br />
Category 1a: Prohibited Invasive Species<br />
Category 1b: Invasive Species Controlled by Programme<br />
Category 2: Invasive Species Controlled by Area<br />
Category 3: Invasive Species Controlled by Activity<br />
Category 4: Extra-Limital Species<br />
Category 5: Species Under Surveillance<br />
3. The conditions set out in the Regulations, and in Schedule 3 to the Regulations, apply to the regulation<br />
of the species listed in these six categories.<br />
4. Category 4 species are only considered invasive outside of the area deemed as part of the distribution<br />
range of a species indigenous to South Africa.<br />
5 Category 5 species are potentially invasive species, or invasive species where the benefits of<br />
controlling them are to be weighed up against the costs of doing so.<br />
6. The maps showing the deemed natural distribution ranges for the extra-limital species (Category 2)<br />
can be found in Schedule 3 to the Regulations.<br />
7. The lists will be consolidated over the next two years, and updated on a regular basis.
