  Christopher House                          Christopher House is one of Canada’s most respected dance artists. Born and raised in  St. John’s, Newfoundland, he joined Toronto Dance Theatre as a dancer in 1979, was named  Resident Choreographer in 1981 and became Artistic Director in 1994.    Christopher House has contributed over sixty works to the Toronto Dance Theatre  repertoire including Glass Houses, Four Towers, Early Departures, Vena Cava and Chiasmata. He  has created works for Lisbon’s Ballet Gulbenkian, the National Ballet of Canada, Les Grands  Ballets Canadiens and Ballet British Columbia, among others.  He has also directed two  collaborations with Joel Gibb and The Hidden Cameras, and directed several short films and  videos. His most recent choreographies include Pteros Tactics (2010), the “annotated remount”  Nest Redux (2010), and Rivers, all for Toronto Dance Theatre.  Rivers, performed to the  celebrated score of the same name by Ann Southam, premiered in April 2012 in Toronto with  live music by Christina Petrowska Quilico and set design by Michael Levine, and was  subsequently performed at the Canada Dance Festival at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa.     As a performer, House has created roles in works by Sarah Chase, Peter Chin, David  Earle, Mark Morris, James Kudelka and Peter Randazzo, and has often appeared in his own  works. While a guest with Les Grand Ballets Canadiens, he performed the title role in Michel  Fokine’s Petrouchka, in Kudelka’s In Paradisum and in Nijinska’s Les Noces as well as in his solo  Schubert Dances at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.     Christopher House has participated three times as a dancer in the Solo Performance  Commissioning Project with Deborah Hay in Findhorn, Scotland. He premiered his adaptation of  News by Deborah Hay in December 2006, and presented five performances of this solo at the  Canada Dance Festival in June 2008. He performed his adaptation of Hay’s At Once in London  and Brighton, UK, in early December, 2011.     Artistic Advisor of the Professional Training Program of The School of Toronto Dance  Theatre, House has taught technique, improvisation, mindful performance and creative process  at The School of Toronto Dance Theatre and at such institutions as the Juilliard School,  Rotterdam Dansacademie, Jacob’s Pillow, and at Ryerson, Simon Fraser and York Universities.  He has received many awards for his work, including three Dora Mavor Moore Awards for  Outstanding New Choreography. He received the Muriel Sherrin Award for International  Achievement in Dance in October 2009, was made an honorary doctor of letters by Memorial  University in 2010, and received the Toronto Alliance for Performing Arts Silver Ticket Award  for Lifetime Achievement in the Arts in 2012.    Christopher House is an Associate Dance Artist of Canada’s National Arts Centre. 
    Murray Kilgour  Murray Kilgour is one of the world’s most respected dance educators. Mr. Kilgour  started his early dance training in Vancouver with Kay Armstrong. He continued at the National  Ballet School of Canada with the legendary Betty Oliphant, as well as Daniel Sellier, Alex  Ursuliak and Nancy Schwenker. He has studied character dance with Eugenie Farmanyants and  Kira Zatzepina of the Bolshoi Ballet School, as well as classical ballet with Eugine Volukin, who is  now head of Teacher Training at the Bolshoi Ballet School.                     In 1967, Mr. Kilgour joined the National Ballet of Canada, where he danced many soloist  and principal roles. He left Canada in 1971 and joined the Royal Ballet, Covent Garden. In 1973  he joined Sadlers Wells Royal Ballet (now Birmingham Royal Ballet), where he was a soloist and  principal dancer. During his performing career he danced in ballets by Sir Frederick Ashton,  George Balanchine, John Cranko, Flemming Flindt, Mikhail Fokine, Celia Franca, Sir Kenneth  MacMillan, Heinz Poll, Antony Tudor and Sir Peter Wright.                                          As a teacher, Mr. Kilgour studied educational methods at the Paris Opera School, the  School of American Ballet and the State School in the former East Berlin. He took summer  courses at the St. Petersburg Ballet School (the Maryiinski).  From 1980 to 1989, Mr. Kilgour  taught at the Royal Ballet School—both the Junior School (White Lodge) and the Upper  School—teaching classical dance for boys, pas de deux, repertoire and character repertoire.  Among his students was the Yorkshire boy whose determination to study ballet inspired the  movie Billy Elliot. In 1984, Mr. Kilgour and his wife, Nancy, travelled to Beijing, China on a  cultural exchange to teach ballet and repertoire at the Central School of Ballet (China's National  School). They took two students with them, including Billy Elliot, who is now a ballet master at  the Royal Ballet.  Adam Cooper, the Tony‐Award‐winning dancer who portrayed the adult Billy  at the end of the film, was also a student of Mr. Kilgour's at the Royal Ballet School.  Prior to his return to Canada, Mr. Kilgour was senior male teacher at Central School of  Ballet in London, England.  As Head of Male Dance, he was instrumental in developing all  aspects of coursework for the boys' training, which included in‐service development of a three‐ year course of study involving classical dance, repertoire, and pas de deux. He also assisted  Ballet Central (the graduating‐year performing group) with their productions, including setting  works from the classical repertoire, Bournonville repertoire and works of Ashton and  MacMillan. In 2000, Mr. Kilgour taught as a guest with the National Ballet of Canada and the  National Ballet School.
