On a final note, we acknowledge that this checklist may contain inaccuracies or questionable entries, so welcome
constructive feedback from readers. Although this checklist is an attempt to provide an updated look at the Singapore
malacofauna species composition, it is not intended to be a proper taxonomic revision. Work on the systematics of
molluscs in Singapore is wanting and decisions on the ‘correct’ name to use in species that have been published under
different names are often difficult. This is unfortunately unavoidable, and the use of some names over others for certain
species may not satisfy everyone. It must be reiterated that the taxonomic decisions expressed here were our personal
opinions, and may not necessarily reflect popular usage nor be supported by the current literature. Nevertheless, we are
confident that the information herein is an advancement of the current knowledge of the composition of the local
malacofauna. And other than being a source of information for research purposes, we hope that this list will inspire
interest in molluscs and thereby setting the stage for more work on the monitoring and documenting of the molluscan
diversity in Singapore.
