RBC development.
• Role is still controversial but most recent data suggest and
involvement. Erythropoietin increases hemoglobin
production

• However, in a erythropoietin knockout system there are still
some hemoglobin producing cells of this lineage so not
totally dependent as the fetal liver system is.
