I have wanted to visit Dubai for
quite some time now and to do so
as part of a World Class Skydiving
Event made for an unforgettable
experience. We had 12 days to do
11 jumps with lots of time to explore
the local area. After a morning
jump, competitors would typically
group up and head out to the
water park, aquarium, or the Burj
Khalifa, the tallest building in the
world. Other activities included
camel rides on the beach, sailing
in the Persian Gulf, and/or visiting
the Great Mosque of Abu
Dhabi. It was a world class event
that will be extremely difficult to
top. I'm looking forward to going
again next year. Almost 40 world
class swoopers from 15 countries
competed for $30,000 in prize
money. The battle for top spots in
each event was heated, and in
Accuracy alone there was only 5
points difference between 1st and
3rd place. Despite some controversy
and confusion at the award
ceremony, the best athletes were
recognized for their standings.
Next year should bring even more
top competitors from their respective
countries making for another
top notch meet. Thomas Hughes
and I were constantly battling in a
close race throughout most of the
event. Although I didn't place first
in any one event I continued to put
good scores up which yielded an
overall victory. I was extremely
happy with the competition and
the organization.

Era un pò di tempo che desideravo visitare Dubai ed stavolta prendendo parte a una gara internazionale,
un World Class Skydiving Event, ho potuto vivere un’esperienza indimenticabile.
Abbiamo avuto 12 giorni per effettuare 11 lanci, quindi abbiamo avuto molto tempo libero per
fare i turisti. Dopo il lancio della mattina i competitori si riunivano in gruppo per visitare il parco
acquatico, l’acquario o il Burj Khalifa, il più alto grattacielo del mondo. Altre attività offerte sono
state le passeggiate in cammello sulla spiaggia, escursioni in barca nel Golfo Persico o le visite
alla Grande Moschea di Abu Dhabi. La gara è stata di livello mondiale, davvero difficile da vincere,
non vedo l’ora di tornarci il prossimo anno. Almeno 40 swooper di altissimo livello provenienti
da 15 nazioni si sono battuti per i 30.000 dollari in palio. La competizione in ogni disciplina
è stata accesissima e nella Precisione tra il 1° e il 3° vi sono stati solo 5 punti di distacco.
Nonostante alcuni problemi e confusione nella cerimonia di premiazione ai migliori atleti è stato
riconociuto il successo. Il prossimo anno accorreranno altri fortissimi competitori, dai loro paesi
per rendere la gara ancora più avvicente. Io e Thomas Hughes ci siamo battuti fino all’ultimo,
fianco a fianco per tutta la gara. Anche se non sono arrivato 1° in nessuna disciplina ho continuato
a raccogliere punti che mi hanno consentito di risultare il vincitore nella classifica assoluti.
Sono stato davvero felice sia per la competizione che per come è stata organizzata.
