HOW TO CHANGE A STEERING COLUMN
SWITCH IF THE CAR IS EQUIPPED WITH
AN AIR BAG
The Air Bag systems are subjected to different legislation for
explosives, dependant upon the country's current law, for
this reason the following safety rules must be respected:
1) First make sure that the wheels of the car are centered.
Disconnect the negative cable and then the positive cable
from the battery and wait for at least 5 minutes (this permits
to the on board computer memory to reset itself).
2) Now remove progressively:
* the Air Bag and store it faced up
in a safe place
* the steering wheel, the plastic
covers and the wires
* the Steering Column Switch
3) Replace the steering column switch; be careful not to
“pinch” the wires of the steering column switch itself and the
ones of the clock spring.
4) Disconnect the security plug of the clock spring.
5) Once you have reconnected the steering column switch
and the wheel you can reinstall the plastic covers and the
airbag.
6) Now reconnect the battery – first the positive cable and
then the negative one.
In case of incorrect working the Air Bag control light goes
on. It is then necessary to identify the problem and reset
the unit by using a specific instrument.
