■ On Saturday, March 25,<br />
Fabens High School hosted the<br />
District 2-AAAA UIL Tournament,<br />
according to a release from<br />
the district. Months of practice<br />
finally paid off for Fabens students,<br />
as many advanced to<br />
“Regionals” at San Angelo in<br />
their respective competitions.<br />
FHS had the greatest number of<br />
teams in the district that advanced<br />
to Regional Competition. On the<br />
Mathematics side, the Fabens<br />
Number Sense Team achieved first<br />
place with top scorers Jesus Ortega<br />
in first place and Dyana Garcia in<br />
second place. Fabens’ Science<br />
Team, Spelling Team and Current<br />
Events Team also placed first.<br />
“All the contestants and coaches<br />
can be proud of the effort they put<br />
in. We competed against schools<br />
with 300-1000 more students than<br />
what we have here and beat four<br />
of them. Great job!” said Fabens’<br />
UIL coordinator Penny Jones.<br />
Seventeen Fabens students will be<br />
advancing to Regional Competition<br />
this week.<br />

missing 15-year-old teenage girl.<br />
On March 13, Dominque Isabel<br />
Perez left her home at about 9:30<br />
p.m. and<br />
has not<br />
been heard<br />
from since.<br />
She is believed<br />
to be<br />
voluntarily<br />
missing.<br />
Detectives<br />
have exhausted<br />
all<br />
leads and<br />
need anyone that may have any<br />
information on her whereabouts<br />
to call Police Communications<br />
at 832-4400. Perez is a Hispanic<br />
female, 15 years old, with brown<br />
eyes, dark shoulder length hair,<br />
5’2" tall, 100 pounds, thin build,<br />
medium complexion and has a<br />
tattoo of a heart on her right wrist.<br />

■ Jane A. Hambric Elementary<br />
fifth grader Alejandra Flores was<br />
the <strong>Texas</strong> winner for the Arbor<br />
Day Poster Contest. Flores’ poster<br />
will go on to compete at the national<br />
contest. She will receive a<br />
$500 dollar savings bond and a<br />
framed poster of her art work. On<br />
Friday, April 28 at 10 a.m. trees<br />
will be planted at her school in a<br />
special ceremony. Dignitaries<br />
from El Paso City Hall, El Paso<br />
Parks and Recreation, El Paso<br />
Water Utilities, <strong>Texas</strong> Forest Service<br />
and Socorro ISD will be on<br />
hand for the event. Special musical<br />
performances will be given<br />
and refreshments will be served<br />
after the ceremony.<br />
